some of my favorite parts of the mighty nein adaptation that not enough people are talking about---

Molly's little line about doing whatever it takes to keep "this never-ending party alive" in reference to the circus in ep 3 felt very Lucien-core in a way I love and helps create continuity between the two characters

How Dierta avoided both the "tragically dying perfect mom" and the "abusive bitch mom" tropes but instead took elements of both (y'know, the whole, being sick thing + hitting Essek and forcing him to kill her) to create a fully-fleshed out and incredibly interesting character! I think she is also a great embodiment of the Luxon religion; well-meaning but a lack of understanding can cause both to do some fucked up things.

How Jester kinda deconstructs both the manic pixie dream girl / cuckoolander tropes! Yeah, she's going to teach Stoogy McSerious to have fun and chillax, but she's doing it because she's incredibly lonely, has no one else, has been sheltered from consequences most of her life causing her to seek immediate gratification, and is trying to make her codependent god jealous. And yeah, she talks big game about being yourself, and tries to, but privately feels incredibly outcast and is very broken up about it.

How Caleb and Beauregard excellent reflect the difference between an evil action and an asshole one. Caleb is much more polite and soft-spoken, but he's also willing to threaten Beau for information, torture and execute a prisoner, and throw the team under the bus to study the beacon with Trent. While he might not be full-on evil at present, he's still definitely willing to do more than dip his toe into immorality if it gets him what he wants. Meanwhile, Beau is just a fucking asshole. She's rude, abrasive, secretive, and has trust-issues galore. That being said, she's also the first to comfort (albeit clumsily) Molly after his breakdown in episode 4 in the jail cell, apologizes for being rude to the group and gives them pretty sincere well-wishes, tries to comfort Fjord in ep 7, and immediately tries to protect the people she cares about (checking in on Dairon, defending Caleb to Dairon, fighting Astrid to try to save Fjord, etc.). Yeah, Beau might talk big game about torturing Owelia, but everyone in that room who has actually tortured people immediately clocks Beauregard's empathy and morality from two time-zones away.
