West Bank, Palestine, 2003 // Alessandra Sanguinetti
I’ve admired this photographer for years. She has a lot of great documentary photography projects (highly recommend googling and finding more); this past month she has been sharing more of her photo archive of Palestine, as well as a lot of up-to-date information and side-by-side comparisons. You can follow her on instagram here.
حصان جنين / The Horse of Jenin is a sculpture created by the youth of the camp with the help of German artist Thomas Kilpper. The horse is built from the remnants of cars and ambulances which were targeted and wrecked during the bloody invasion in 2002.
This was the last picture I took of this sculpture. I’ll honestly never get over how proud everyone was of this horse and how eager they were to talk about it at any given chance. The kids loved it, you can see them playing around it in this picture.
Israel apparently felt so threatened by a scrap metal horse built by the people of Jenin that it had destroyed it this past October during one of its incursions into the Jenin refugee camp.
