The Multiple facets of my favourite piece from my Impossible Structures collection
They are held together with hot glue, so they are not specifically impossible, but I wanted them to imply balance.
Polish Headpieces as inspiration for my Cultural Identity Headpiece with stuffed toys from my childhood.
Every time I went to the markets to get toys they didn't have any. I think this is going to be a longer terms project where I slowly collect all of the pieces that remind me of my childhood and slowly work on the piece.
This is also inspired by the costumes of Nick Cave.
Selfie culture is rampant. IS it productive? Does it actually help my self esteem? Do I need to tell people what I'm thinking? Or does the look on my face tell it all?
I really like Sarah Bahbahs series on Instagram of photoshoots with subtitles, and they influenced how I shot my photos last semester, you can see some of her work in this blog from last semester. So I decided to do a direct stylistic translation and post highly cynical (often the whole antithesis of selfie culture) captions underneath.
Hunting for stuffed toys at the Camberwell flea market to make my headdress for Cultural Identity. All I found was the Gizmo from Gremlins that they wanted $10 for. I thought I'd come across lots of stuffed animals for 50c to $1 each. Nothing!!!
I did buy some slides to use in a future project tho. I’m not sure what but my great grandparents have hundreds of slides, so maybe I'll make something nostalgic.
The making of the Botanic Garden 3D painting exploration. The purpose of this was to turn my painting from last semester into a 3D Decon/reconstructions, to expand beyond my previous work. Investigating how shape, space and painting interact in a 3D space, rather than a flat painting surface.
The build was a nightmare. The saw disintegrated the thin veneer of the wood. the hot glue wouldn't stick and my bonds kept breaking. It took about 3 times longer than anticipated, which is actually about right for me.
I will definitely be exploring this concept further. Maybe using laser cutting rather than hand cutting, non-recycled materials etc. I think the concepts of interaction between line, shape and space was highly successful, but the idea itself needs further refinements. Any maybe smaller might be easier....
Bigger than Me cones experimentation.
I photographed and printed out imagds of my Botanic Gardens resolved strip painting from last semester as part of progressing my Botanic Gardens self directed extension.
These little pyramids also turned into a 5 words exploration of Geometry and also informed the idea for my Bigger than Me cave installations.
