Do you think that if Grant hadn't gotten the flash we'd have gotten seblaine? I think so and I think a lot of fans would have been less adamant about a klaine endgame if we had gotten to see the chemistry between Darren and Grant as Blaine and Sebastian because their chemistry was off the charts compared to klaine. Every time I do a glee rewatch I ask my teenaged self what I was thinking shipping klaine 😭
oh man this ask has some gOOD questions. honestly, i think it could go both ways. many people are adamant about their ships and nothing will change that, others i think can have easily be swayed by chemistry of other ships. blaine stans (or those that claim to be, i got a lot of side-eyes that it’s hard to be a blaine stan if you ship klaine, but i digress) could have probably gotten on board with seblaine with decent storylines because i think sebastian could have offered a lot of different opportunities for blaine to grow as a character. imo, with klaine i feel like you get a lot of instances where blaine unravels as a strong character, the relationship tears him apart instead of builds him up so really—a decent other romantic relationship for blaine (something that wasn’t used to eventually feed into klaine) would have been amazing to see.
unfortunately, i have a feeling that if sebastian would have stuck around as a character he wouldn’t have been used correctly in glee. i think we were stuck with klaine as endgame the minute they got together and the worst i think that could have happened was seblaine being used as a spring-board to justify and strengthen klaine storylines (bc it’s already canon to not handle sebastian smythe’s character well).
long story long, i wouldn’t trust glee with my sons.
now if we were in a perfect world? if grant would have stuck around and seblaine got to develop with good ol’ fashioned fic dreams of ‘enemies to friends to lovers’ kinda storylines? i think we would have been golden and i think it’s very possible we might have gotten more people on board, even klainers (like yourself ;))
don’t blame yourself too much anon. klaine has a lot of promising moments, if i look at the ship objectively and try not to think about all the moments where kurt’s mistreatment of blaine has enraged me. blaine deserved a good boyfriend, which kurt was in a hot take at the very early stages of season 2.
but i personally lost respect for him when he a) complained about blaine getting solos (and having to sit on a stool and watch those solos!), b) complained about blaine’s talent and the universe constantly putting him into the spotlight, c) questioned and was fucking rude about blaine’s contemplation that he might be bisexual (doesn’t matter that he realized he was gay, it matters that he was trying to figure out who he was and kurt was an asshole about it), d) made him feel bad about getting and wanting the role of Tony, e) made him feel bad that he’s charismatic and even women want to kiss him (calling him an alpha-gay)—and that’s in the span of a few episodes of season 2. don’t get me started on other seasons.
