SEVERANCE is the first short film I ever directed. It was an insane five days of night shoots with a dedicated cast and crew that couldn’t have been more invested in making a great film.

And then life got in the way and I didn’t finish it until now.

I’ve learned a lot on the two short films that I directed (and finished) since Severance, and have certainly become a better director, but I think there’s something special about your directorial debut as you jump into the deep end and try to make sense of the madness while attempting to find your style and voice as a filmmaker.

So for that reason, Severance holds a very special place in my heart.

I’m very lucky to work with someone as talented as Chris. He has the incredible ability to say the dumb words we write for him in a way so good that HE WINS AWARDS. Amazing.

Thanks to Chris for his hard work and dedication to his craft. Jeff Gibson isn’t an easy character to like all the time, but Chris was never afraid to take him where he needed to go and say some truly heinous things when necessary. I always felt that he elevated our show to another level, and now here’s proof.

After a series of mysterious encounters, two strangers find themselves pitted against a conspiracy to control the fate of the world.

In 2014, I wrote and directed a short film called “THE CUPID DIVISION” and as a result, I was lucky enough to meet my best friends for life when they all agreed to star in it.

Earlier this week we found out that Unexceptional had been accepted into the Los Angeles CineFest film festival.

Today, voting begins for the Audience Award portion of the festival, which means WE NEED YOUR HELP.

Episode 07 - Under the Bridge: Part One

Geek By Night is an audio dramedy about five friends running a comic book store together. With superpowers.

“Under the Bridge: Part One″ When a customer is offended by him, Gibson refuses to apologize and gains the attention of an underground syndicate of internet trolls.

Really proud of how this episode turned out. We wanted to make an episode that dealt with Gibson’s failings as a character while simultaneously commenting on/criticizing a particular subset of internet troll (the “gate” ones) with a villain that is truly awful (and just gets worse in Part Two). The script from Michael Austin Gulick & Sean Gantwerker is one of our best, Ray Ruzzo (@hazellazer) directed the hell out of it, and Chris O’Connor & Mark Allen Jr both knock it out of the park with absolutely fearless performances as Gibson and the Ire. We make them both say some pretty heinous stuff, but they never backed down or asked us to pull our punches for the sake of their image (and honestly, they would have been totally justified in doing so bc YIKES). I’m really happy with this one. Hopefully, you all like it, too.

But be patient with Gibson. He’s got some learning to do.

Hello followers. Check out this thing I worked on. When I got the script for Under The Bridge last summer, it made me intensely uncomfortable–and maybe I took it a bit too personally, as my character Gwen faced some casual misogyny and homophobia right off the bat in the first scene.

I went to Scott and shared my concern that if this script wasn’t handled right we could end up driving away a large chunk of our audience. And then the episode ended up in my hands. There were times that putting these lines together was mentally exhausting but I think it’s turned out for the best. I hope I did it justice and

I hope our listeners will find the material tough. It’s no Joss Whedon using misogyny as short hand for being evil. This episode and the next deal with a serious attitude problem in the comic book world and on the Internet at large–plus the true meaning of freedom of speech, which isn’t freedom from consequences.
