Pukyot is a set of math teaching tools. It aims to address the subpar quality of education minority groups, specifically the Aetas of Pampanga, receive. What caught my attention was the fact that this project is for Aeta children. I just got back from immersing in an Aeta community (in Zambales, not in Pampanga) 2 weeks ago, and it was really such a heartwarming experience. I think it's great that this project gives priority to the Aetas. I really like that the materials were translated into Kapampangan and that the pictures are things that the Aetas would be familiar with (Mangga vs say Macarons) -- the project really did its best to appropriate its materials to the culture and its intended audience.
Salo Salo is about Filipino food, it is an "interactive dining experience." It tries to address our lack of appreciation for our own cuisine. The pictures of food caught my attention. Personally, I think anything food-related is relevant, but on a more serious note, Salo Salo is relevant because it is an avenue for us to appreciate our land's rich history and heritage through food. I like that the app has recipes and hunger-inducing photos.
Ingest is about Filipino food culture. It aims to address our "lack of admiration for Filipino ethnolinguistic groups." What caught my attention was the designer, Estela being my high school busmate. Haha! I think this project is relevant because in building a more holistic understanding of our national identity, it is essential to to explore other local cuisines and understand the stories that they tell. I really like how simple the design and the layout was, but still very effective. I also liked the display on the table, the banana leaves were a nice touch.
Block is about contraception. It addresses the common misconceptions people have about sexual health and certain birth control methods. What caught my attention was the app itself, the game. This project is relevant because reproductive health is still very much an issue in our country today. What I like about this is the design -- the colors used and how neat it looks.
My favorite logos. I like red-ish logos in general because they really pop out. For Coca-Cola and Chupa Chups, I really like the typography. I like the Captain America logo because it took the American flag and made it different, fresh -- it made use of the same colors, the stripes, and the star on the flag and made it look superhero-ish. As for the firefox logo, I like this new version. I like the colors and I like that it looks flat now. I like the Nickelodeon logo because it's very simple (having just one color) but it sends the message -- one look and you know that it's related to kids somehow because of the paint splatter.
