Au made from a dream !! ;3

Jay was sent out on a patrol (across the merged lands ovbi) and he came across this church in the middle of nowhere with dead trees everywhere but a small circle around the church . He got weird signals from it from a small thing he was holding idk and he went to urn away before a person (they looked like my LA ??) came out and invited him into the church.

Jay didn't wanna go near that thing because it felt weird af but he went anyways . He met other people in the church and they all kept talking about this King they worshiped . Jay started to vibe along with it ("vibing" bro was being mind washed by the church itself) until the people started mentioning things he hadn't told them (his lightning powers ECT) and so he snapped out it and tried to gfto but when he opened the doors of the church, it was around a vortex (picture when the ninja had to grab the scroll of airjitzu when Cole turned ghost) . So jay started climbing onto the church and this guy started following him and kept saying things like "the king likes you" "the king wants you" but jay got to the top of the church thing and managed to get out of the spiral.

When he got out (from the outside it looked like he had just walked out of the front doors) the other ninja were there and asking where the fuck he had been for TWO DAYS... Jay looked like he had seen a ghost and just asked to go home . Zane said he felt some weird af readings and started towards the door but jay went all freaky on him and just begged him to stay away.

They all went to the bounty and jay physical could NOT talk about what happened apart from mentioning this "king" these people worshiped. Then he went to bed and had a dream he was back in that church and went towards the alter to read this book . And then before he could open it he woke up and his room felt weird af .(I was in first person att it was scary) And he knew the king was with him. He started kneeling to nothing and then the king asked him to look at them . But Jay did NOT want to but eventually he looked at the bottom of the king's robe (from my perspective it was just a yellow robe but at that point I figured out it was a dream and who that was). Switch to the other ninja having dinner and discussing what happened when everyone went quiet and Lloyd mentioned the air felt weird af. Zane said he detected another life signature in Jays room so they all run in and jays having a seizure & so the others freak the fuck out and take him to the medical room .

And that's where I woke up BUT. I did add more because atp this is a fully fleshed out au

- they go back to the church

- jay wakes up and basically jumps off the bounty because atp he was out of his mind

- then he snapped out of it just as kai was approaching the door

- jay got VIOLENT and started choking kai

- kai freaked out and blasted him with fire

- jay then got a huge burn scar

just thinking about how lloyd likely wasn't titled the keeper of the monastery of spinjitzu until after he woke up in the monastery, alone, post-merge. with no wu as the keeper, i imagine a combination of family tradition and the fact that the place would be desolate without lloyd to preserve it, automatically descended the title to him

but the realization comes with no fanfare. no one to celebrate, no one to commemorate him, no one to tell him how to do it, no one to tell him he's going to do a good job

while by himself for those few weeks and then for even longer when kai leaves for the others, i wouldn't fault him for feeling helpless

While I love Jay getting his memories back only to have it haunt him as this unachievable person he can never be,

I also really like Jay getting his memories back and not being impressed with himself.

He already doesnt understand why cole likes him as rogue, but now he looks at cole and wonders "why did you even love jay? This is who everyone wanted back?"

Like ooooh the reveal that Jay wasnt this super amazing good person that he feels everyone is telling him, but instead this flawed person who has already hurt his loved ones for selfish reasons in the past. The horrific conclusion that not only is rogue bad, but JAY IS BAD. He's just inherently a bad person

And bc he's a bad person through and through then why should anyone love him? Maybe thats why his bio parents left him. They always knew.

In case anyone cares but doesn't want to read the whole fanfic, here is how I rewrote Jay's final wish in my Skybound retelling, to both show his development and give Nya more agency at the end:

Tears burned in his throat and scalded his words. Jay didn’t care. He didn’t care, didn’t care, didn’t care. He just had to make it right. “Even if it means you’ll never love me, I wish no one had ever found that teapot, because then you’d still be here,” he promised her. “That’s all I want, the only thing I want now, okay? Please. Please still be here. Please.”
