The 2023 Gender Census is now open!

The 10th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 9th May 2023.

It’s short and easy, about 5 minutes probably.

After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.

If you think you might have friends and followers who’d be interested, please do reblog this blog post, and share the survey URL by email or at AFK social groups or on other social networks. Every share is extremely helpful - it’s what helped us get 40,000 responses last year.

the beautiful thing about being genderqueer is there are no rules. genderqueer doesn't have a "look". genderqueer doesn't have requirements. you don't have to be 50/50 masc and fem. you don't have to be masc or fem at all. you don't have to get surgeries or take hormones. you define your genderqueerness. one's genderqueer status is determined completely by who they are as a person, and i think that kicks so much ass.

genderqueer is an identity as well as a form of gender expression, and there is no right or wrong way to identify as OR present as genderqueer. don't ever let anyone tell you you are or are not genderqueer, because there are no requirements. the entire point is that there are no rules. be free, go nuts

A slightly belated something for Ace Week, but y’know what, let’s just claim Halloween while we’re at it.
