Changed the design of Toothless's face from Part 3
That episode where Hiccup desperately looks for the island of night to give toothless a family is such a good episode.
Because Hiccup understands what it means to be the outlier, the only one of his kind in an island of people who belong with someone else. Who are like someone else. So, he understands exactly what it would be like for Toothless.
He doesn't quite understand that Toothless already found someone who is his family, his person, and his people. Hiccup is the only family he needs. Yes it would have been nice to find others but he's just as happy with only being with Hiccup.
Such a beautiful episode.
Hiccup is at least as unhinged and deranged as Heather and Dagur are, he just displays it differently. I mean let’s see here, in the first movie alone Hiccup
FREES a Night Fury. Even if he wouldn’t kill Toothless, freeing him wasn’t the only option but it’s the one he took (and thank the gods for that but still)
Goes looking for the Fury that roared in his face very scarily and warningly
Dangles Astrid from the tallest fucking tree on Berk until she agrees to hear him out/see what he has to show her about dragons. Let me repeat that, this crazy little guy DANGLES ASTRID FROM A LETHALLY TALL TREE. Just to get her to see reason. I sincerely doubt he’d’ve let her die if her grip slipped and she fell but STILL PEOPLE! Crazy work /pos
Just the whole befriending a Night Fury thing in general, from a certain perspective, is genuinely insane of him
Plus more I don’t feel like writing out right now. Hiccup fits right in with Heather and Dagur. And frankly would make a very terrifying and efficient villain if he ever decided to care a little less about humans in his pursuit of freeing and protecting dragons. I’ll repeat, in the first movie alone he was already dangling people from tall treetops. Let that tiny little dragon obsessed man act as crazy and feral as he sometimes is!
Hiccup so easily jumping from heights or free falling off of Toothless, knowing Toothless will catch him, and then thinking all the other riders can just as easily do the same. Silly little dragon boy, they trust their dragons but I don’t think all of them are as insane as you are; or at the very least they have a different brand of insanity
(Rn I’m watching RoB ep5 In Dragons We Trust)
Uuuuuggghh, I love the idea of all dragons (Yes, ALL dragons) loving hiccup. Like- yes! He’s the dragon master, the dragon whisperer, he’s so good with dragons and they love him! (>w<)💖💖
I assure you: somebody, somewhere, is on the exact same wavelength as you are.
I love the randomest parallels between Hiccup and Toothless
Episode Enemy of My Enemy starts, with Hiccup trying to sneak out to look for Viggo and Astrid catches him and Toothless just as they leave the stables.
Toothless looking away with wide innocent eyes: I have nothing to do with this, I don't know who this man is, I've never met him in my life before.
Exasperated, she eventually let's them go. Though Toothless blasts away the heavy itchy armour when Hiccup tries to put it on..
Minutes later as they're flying around the place practicing stunts and having a fun flight,
Hiccup: When Astrid finds out you went without your armor, I am not covering for you.
....
Besties who'll jump off cliffs willingly and get struck by lightning willingly and be ready to drown willingly and eat what they're deathly terrified of willingly just to save the other will throw each other under the bus for escaping the wrath of an unimpressed Astrid
Hookfang being so careful with everyone other than Snotlout is so important. He’s a beast of a dragon, he literally goes into fights blazing without a plan. He respects strength first.
Most humans are delicate little things that he has to handle with the kiddy gloves on. He’s cautious with the twins, gentle with Hiccup, respectful with Astrid, careful with Fishlegs.
Snotlout however is his viking and he’s a good one. Made of tougher stuff or whatever. He can handle a little roughhousing. He can handle Hookfang catching fire every once in a while, he can handle being scooped and thrown and shaken, he can handle a chomp or two. More than “handle” honestly, he likes it, because he’s the same genre of feral-for-action.
We know Snotlout does, but the fact Hookfang also sees them as equals (despite all their fighting) is very dear to me
Hi, excuse me but
Terrifying Deadly creature that can tear through earth like it's her livelihood loves this boy
Milky creepy soulless eyes that still look like they hold adoration
Hiccup 'soul of dragon' Haddock, what even are you
Lost count of the amount of times Hiccup speaks to dragons like one would speak to humans and it doesn't have that pitch and cadence of talking to an animal or a pet that the rest often do when speaking to any other dragon which isn't their own or isn't part of their group.
Funny thing is, he'd been doing that since before he even found Toothless as can be seen with the way he went, "Except for you," to that monstrous nightmare.
He rants and vents and rambles to them, he bounces ideas with them, has entire back and forth conversations with them sometimes, gossips with them too tbh, sasses at them, his entire mannerism of communicating with dragons implies that he is talking to a regular person.
Like, if you replace the dragons with humans in random scenes of the series where others interact with them, it would seem uncanny to watch because while not always, there's still sometimes that cadence to the voices and behavioral patterns that indicate this person is speaking to an animal. The rest of the gang gradually grows out of it but sometimes it flares up, with Snotlout and Fishlegs being the least likely to have that sorta tone (heck Snotlout even talks like the other dragon is his rival or something).
But no one has that same level of casual communication with these reptiles that Hiccup does and he only develops that soothing voice when a dragon is panicking or upset. If every scene of Hiccup's interaction with dragons throughout the series was made so all dragons were humans, it would look completely natural and nothing would be able to suggest that something had changed.
(A few examples here including showing exasperation at the wild monstrous nightmare, speaking to Torch throughout the episode, him and Toothless ALL THE TIME, "Meatlug, where are you taking me?", he was speaking to them all in gotnf when he found them with the hatchlings, "Not so fireproof on the inside, are you? Here you go.", ranting to that thunderdrum in Imperfect Harmony, speaking to it throughout and even at the end when the baby was reunited, "Yup, probably deserved that," when Smidvarg shook his eardrums, "Remember, not a competition. *To Sharpshot* This is really gonna go bad in a hurry.", "Wait a second, I know you," and "C'mon, guys, you're not gonna start this again. Right now, we've got a fire bearing down on us.", Nodding to Mama Whispering Death and then saying "Uhhh, you're welcome?" to Screaming Death, trying to talk to the Skrill in dob, talking to it in rtte, scolding Fanghook too when scolding Gustav, "No. I'm sorry but... Little guy, you need to go with your own.", boasting to the shadow wings by quoting Dagur.)
To Hiccup, dragons are more equals than humans sometimes are.
