"N-Nagisa!" Bri was smiling broadly but she was clearly still shy. Her eyes were wide until she finally shut them. "Um! Um! Come get your reward?" She wrapped her arms around his shoulder, opening her eyes and again and leaned in slowly, so their lips could meet. Her eyes closing again as she came closer.

"I know, I just wanted to tell you." He smiled good-naturedly, his arms around her waist as he leaned in with her, pressing their lips together. The kiss was soft and sweet, until he flicked his tongue out playfully, giving her bottom lip a little nip, as though asking for her to open her mouth.

When she looked at him, he gazed back, his eyes intense, serious. It was an expression that seemed to be an ill fit for him, uncharacteristically solemn, a contrast to his usual brightness. “O-oh!” It seemed as though her words snapped him out of it, and he quickly stood up. Moving, he grabbed his yogurt cup and tossed it casually, before reaching to grab his bag. 

"Then, let’s go," Nagisa confirmed, adjusting their hands so that he could intertwine their fingers, before giving her a slight squeeze. He tugged at her gently, pushing open the glass doors of the yogurt store. "…should we go…to my house?"

What was that look for?! Even though he calmed down quickly, it still made her jump a little just thinking about it. It was so…so out of her frame of reference, she wasn’t what to make of it. Yet she tried to keep a cool front, pushing up her glasses she nodded. “Your house is fine. As long as we can talk.”

Taking his cue, she quickly threw away her cup as well and smiled at him, squeezing his hand a bit. “Anyways, just so you know, it’s nothing bad.” She tried to reassure him as they started on their way. As soon as they were a ways from the building, Bri leaned up and kissed him on the cheek.  It was a bit of a walk before they reached the house. “So…you’re sure, nobody’s going to be home? Does anyone know about me, Nagisa?”

"My older sisters are working," he replied, digging into his pockets for his keys and unlocking the door. "My mother wants to meet you, but...we can leave this off for some other day, heh." Pushing open the door, he pulled at her again, bringing her in. "Just use the bunny slippers on the rack. It's for guests. My room is upstairs, all the way to the end. I'll go make tea--I think we have chocolate cake in the fridge." 

Giving her hand one last squeeze, he let go before kicking off his shoes, placing them neatly facing the door. In truth, somehow...he was nervous. There had never been a girl...a proper girl...in his room before. Dropping the book on the couch, he made his way to the kitchen.

Well.

"Wha? Nagisa…" Bri bit her lip, her face felt like it was on fire. She gave nervous glances away, before her eyes found his. "Nagisa…look…um…" Placing her hand on his as she stood. "I don’t feel too comfortable talking here so…heh." It was at times like this she wanted to address it in private. Bri was trying her hardest right now not to stutter from that romantic gesture, even though she couldn’t do anything to stop her blush. 

A simple misunderstanding, and she felt so bad for teasing him for it. It didn’t matter to her whether or not he was there for his birthday. Glancing at her boyfriend again. “Please? Let’s go?”

Did she…say something wrong? Oh no! She probably soured his mood. Her expression turned apologetic and her entire demeanor flipped from playful to careful. It was only natural that she’d upset him somehow with the way her personality can be.  ”Oh Nagisa….I’m sorry…” Bri looked down, ashamed, placing her spoon back in the yogurt. “Making that face…did I upset you?” She spoke softly, trying to form her sentences cautiously.

He turned his face away from her, placing the cup down, before reaching out for her hand. Gripping onto it, Nagisa was still looking away as he said, "I just feel awful, for missing your birthday." In his tone there was his usual sincerity, "I didn't know how to make it up to you." 

Even though they were in public, he lowered his head, pressing a kiss to her hand. "And I didn't want you to see...me as less of someone, or think that I love you any less, because I missed your birthday."

"No, just unexpected," she said nonchalantly, then nodded, motioning him to follow her. Unexpected, just like catching him here. Bri took a seat at one of the tables nearby, placing her cup down. "Ah, you know, I’m not accepting this as my birthday gift." She ended her statement with a wink then giggled to herself. "But, thanks, I appreciate it."

She took a spoonful of her yogurt, enjoying the sweet taste of vanilla, oreos and mochi all together. “Mmm~” She had a bit of a habit of licking the yogurt off her spoon instead of sucking. Which she did with her second bite. “So what book is that?” She asked between licks.

At her words, he pouted, half standing up in response. "It's not! Your birthday gift!" the blond exclaimed, puffing up his cheeks in response. "I think, as a boyfriend, you shouldn't be allowed to pay for anything when we're out together, anyways." 

He sat back down, shoving a spoonful of yogurt into his mouth and pouting. "Sengoku era. It just came out. Ultimate edition." His words were clipped as he poked at the yogurt again. Was that what she saw him as? Really?

Bri gave him a curious look, raising an eyebrow at him. This kid always had a lot of energy, but…sometimes… She shook her head and giggled, amused at the display. Well he was happy, that’s all that mattered. 

"Only yogurt and strawberries…" She looked shocked. Nagisa, who ate the monstrosity known as ‘Hopping Bread’ was so tame today. "Well okay…if you insist." She knew better than to argue, what Nagisa wanted, Nagisa would get. "Thank you~"

"O-oh, is it weird?" he replied over his shoulder, taking out his wallet and paying for the yogurt. Maybe it was weird. It was technically her fault for distracting him. Handing over the money and then receiving the change, he picked up their cups and held hers out for her. "Let's sit?" 

Somehow, he was still oddly nervous. The night of her birthday was a little anticlimatic--he was exhausted after the meet, but it wasn't exactly an excuse. There should be a way to make it up...

"I’m here to get froyo…" She chuckled, turning back to the yogurt dispensers. Well if that wasn’t a silly question! Turning back to him, the sampling cup filled a little over the top with cake batter, she began to suckle and lick on it. "Cake batter is pretty good~ What are you getting?"

"Also, what do you have there?" She asked as she finished her froyo, discarding the empty cup. Taking a normal cup, she went directly to the vanilla flavor, filling her cup to the brim, then covering it with oreos and mochi. Black and white, just like her outfit.

Aw yeah, nailed it. 

Giving himself a mental fist pump, there wasn't exactly time to think when she asked him what he got--with that sort of action. "...eh?" Pausing for a moment, he looked around, before holding up the bag. "O-oh! This! It's a book!" 

He laughed a little more, before reading for a cup. "Strawberry." It was a simple decision, and he filled up his cup with the yogurt and fresh strawberries. Leaning over, he then snatched her cup from her hands. "Let me pay."

It had been a few days since her birthday had passed. It wasn’t a requirement, but she still couldn’t help but want to tease him about, not being there. Walking around idly, smiling a little at her thoughts. It seemed that these days, Nagisa was always on her mind. In the morning…the afternoons, the evenings and finally before she fell asleep. 

Ah…she had to get her mind off of this. One turn around the corner and a few there, and she had arrived at her favorite froyo place. Fall was around the corner, but sweets were a priority over practicality. She stepped in, first examining the new flavors they had today. The ‘Cake Batter’ flavor looked appealing, and she turned around to get a small sampling cup, when her eyes settled on the new person who just entered.

"Oh, hey Nagisa!"

...he couldn't exactly tell her he had missed the window of opportunity to say hi, and had followed her into the shop. Instead, Nagisa had decided to play it cool, walking into the bookstore next door, making an impromptu purchase (a book about the sengoku era), and then heading into the frozen yogurt place.

He thought he was pretty smooth. 

Examining the flavor menu with mild curiosity, the blond male finally turned around at the sound of his name. "Bri-chan! What are you doing here?"

Yeah. 

Totally smooth.

"Only if you promise that you'll be mine, and only mine."

"Aah, but tiny people are so great," she said dreamily. “You can use them as armrests~ and no one sees them coming when they push people off balconies~"

She straightened back up to her full height, and once again gave him a pat on the head. “I hope you never grow again, precious bean."

Uwaa! This was the exact opposite of what he wanted! 

Wait.

Pushing people off balconies. That sounded exactly like something he would do. (Within reason.) "...Precious bean?"

"Haha, wow, you’re a tiny." Grinning now, she bent down slightly so they were at the same level. “Don’t worry, I’m not looking down at you… well, figuratively. You’re definitely a better swimmer than me, at least. By default."

"I'm s-still growing...!" He didn't sound entirely convinced by what he was trying to say. Resigned,Nagisa shrugged, sighing. "Swimming is easy if you practice. Height...I can't fix that with practice."

"Oh." She blinked. Not only did he plan to defeat her, but he understood that hitting her would not be acceptable.

"I like you, kid."

"You l-like me?" Then the realization of her qualifer sunk in, and Nagisa made a face. "H-hey! I'm not a kid! I turned sixteen recently! I'm a man now!"

With her head beneath the water, she couldn’t scream, but she did release a gasp as she was suddenly going backwards. The young lady was breathing hard after her little attack, still in shock. She was silent, only focused on her breathing until she was stable enough to speak.

"I-I’m sorry…I’m really sorry for this…" Bri took a final breath, her eyes drifting to the pool floor. Or rather…she was wondering why she was suddenly a bit taller than him. “Oh! I’m fine, thank you. Thank you, and I’m sorry. You can…put me down now!" She stammered with a red face.

"I don't see a particular reason I should be putting you down." She was read, how cute! Chuckling, Nagisa waded towards the steps leading into the pool, before setting her down. "Just kidding." Giving her head a slight pat, Nagisa stretched his arms, before rolling his shoulders back. 

Still, he felt a little bad for making her feel awful like that. "How about we go out for tea, after this? My treat, because I didn't teach you well enough."

HEAVY BREATHING

"Belle-chan, you'll look at me and only me during the swim meet, right?"

That’s not very reassuring…shouldn’t you be more concerned? What kind of friend are you? This is the person I’m trusting to teach me?

But I can’t help but want to try for this sweet smile…that’s what happened…weakness = charming boys…

She gave a small nod. At least what she could do, from how high the water was now, naturally she was hesitant. With her hesitance came insecurity. Her heart pace sped up, she was suddenly very wary of how high the water was now. A leap of faith right?! Just one leap! Eyes squeezed shut.

She bounced!

And as soon as hit the water, she sunk beneath! When the cold liquid rushed over her, flowing into her nose and ears. Bri couldn’t help but panic. A freakout, she started to flounder, forgetting that all she needed was to tiptoe to stay above the water.

Oh no! She did exactly what he told her not to do, her arms flailing, splashing the water in his face. Seeing no other alternative, Nagisa snapped his goggles on and dove under water, grabbing her by the waist and kicking, propelling the both of them away from the deep waters. Underwater, she was even lighter than usual, so it was easy to carry her. 

Once he was able to stand up in the water, Nagisa lifted her up by the waist. "Shh, shh, I got you. See, you're okay. Like I promised, right?"

"That’s weird that not everyone comes….but sure, you can join me I guess." 

Truthfully she swam her best without an audience, but she would have to make do with this for now. She looked down at the simple clothes she wore over her swim suit and unzipped her light sweater. She was nervous, since she hadn’t really swam in a while…

"Yeah, it's pretty weird! Haru-chan, the vice-captain, lives in the water, practically." Nagisa began to strip down into just his swim trunks, stretching out on the edge of the pool a bit. Swimming needed warming up just as much as any other sport, after all.

Taking a deep breath, he glanced back at the girl. "I didn't get your name before. I'm Hazuki Nagisa, but just call me Nagisa." With that, he took another breath, snapping his goggles on and closing his eyes, before diving in, the water rushing past his ears.

"Mmkay…" To what extent though? No she had to believe herself, right? I mean maybe she’ll actually learn how to swim this time! If she stay positive everything would be all right…even if the water level was rising.

Ah maybe she should focus on his friend instead~ Ah yes, his lack of any body movement, kind reminded her of a human pool toy. Was he even alive?! Please don’t let there be a dead body by the pool. Swimming is a traumatic event as it is.

Okay okay…soon she’ll have to tiptoe now…? A glance to the side, and they were nearing her height, well passing it. “Um, Nagisa…" Panic…panicking…she could feel it…

He noticed that her gaze was back on Haru, and Nagisa smiled. "Really, don't worry about Haru-chan. He's fine! Haru-chan!" A small gurgle escaped the body, and he moved about an inch, but other than that, there was no signs of life.

Returning back to her, he smiled encouragingly. 

"You're doing really well. I got you. Now, your toes are touching the floor, right? Bounce. Use the floor to propel yourself upwards. I'll let your hands go in a moment, and when you push up from the floor, use your arms to propel yourself upwards as well. If you ever lose control in the water, don't flail around. That only causes you to sink; what you should be doing instead if bouncing, or, well, it's called treading. It won't get you anywhere, but it keeps you above water long enough for me to get to you, if I'm far away."
