What I love about the “Cracker Barrel discourse”™️ is that it’s not like the previous kitch design of Cracker Barrel, or Applebees, or TGI Friday’s, etc. etc. was any less designed or focus grouped by corporate research than the new version. Whether the walls are grey or covered in “Americana” [i.e. pop culture shit white people find comforting], it’s truly all the same.

What people are angry about is that their expectations about what a place “should” look like is no longer in the cultural zeitgeist, so they have lost the power to dictate the aesthetic of popular culture. It’s very “kids these days don’t know how to dress” but for chain restaurants.
