Omg, I'm so happy with how the new (optional) celestial-themed header images for the neos site skin turned out! They make switching between dark and light mode so satisfying!

⋆。𓆝 𓆟 𓆞·。 Disclaimers : I only use my handphone when making this skin and not an expert so i apologize if there's some places that look odd and some texts are hard to read. Images and pngs are from Tumblr and Pinterest, i tried to pick carefully so there's no AI used. I used this, this and followed very little bits of this CSS codes. I take no request. 𖦹˚𓇼˚‧ Orca and Whale–especially Humpback Whale–are known to have deep hatred towards one another. Ironically i love them both, and i want to make a skin in reverence for those beautiful creatures where they seem to coexist with each other. Blue is my favorite color and i have been in love with ocean so i'm a little bewildered how i didn't make blue/sea theme skin until now lol! Easily this is my personal favorite skin out of all the others that i made.

Tutorial how to activate the skin + the code :
Copy the code i provided in this GitHub, there is a copy button at the top right(•••) of the code box. And here if you prefer Google doc.
Sign to your AO3 account, after that go to "Dashboard".
On your "Dashboard", tap on a section called "Skins".
On the "Skins" page, tap on the button labelled "Create Site Skin".
Give your site skin a unique title, i usually use 2-4 word for the skins that i saved. IF YOUR SKIN NAME IS NOT UNIQUE, YOU CAN'T SAVE THE SKIN.
Paste the codes you copied from my GitHub into the "CSS" box.
When you're done, scroll to the bottom of the page and click a button labelled "Submit". This will save your site skin and take you to a new page where you can see the title of your skin as well as all of the code.
Click "My Site Skin" and you can see the skin are added, press "Use" to activate it.
If the Whale and Orca background image in the right border makes the texts unreadable to you when reading a fic, you can make it smaller by simply find this code ↓
This girl I was talking to said she hates when people will just talk because they're bored rather than to actually form a friendship. Made me feel a bit guilty because that's mostly what friendship itself is to me these days. I talk to people and I try to keep in touch and keep updated and ask about what they're doing and try to be helpful but it's really just stuff I'm doing so the people I talk to when I'm bored don't stop talking to me. I don't actually care. I stopped caring a while back. I feel kind of bad for pretending to still do so but it can't be helped.
Gentle notice that “highbrow” and “lowbrow” are eugenics/race science terms and it may be better to just quietly retire them in casual discussions of art
Just a point of historical clarification though, degeneration theory is much older than nazism: it originated in Enlightenment philosophical theories about society and nature, with some significant points of crystallization in the late 18th century by Immanuel Kant, mid-19th century by Benedict Morel, and by Max Nordau in 1892.
The Nazis were a PRODUCT of the prestige philosophy that believed in racial degeneration, the ideas that led to genocide were current throughout Europe and the Americas and were used to justify colonial genocides throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.
I think it’s important to understand how deeply rooted this is in European philosophy and social theory because it helps counter the idea that Nazism was some kind of unique aberration. If we recognize the patterns that gave rise to it we have a better chance of responding effectively to those patterns
Hi! I’m really sick of whitewashing and the various excuses that artists come up with, so I wrote a guide! How To Not Whitewash, at least with regards to skin tone.
Please make use of it, and encourage other artists to do so as well.
Here’s a link to this guide on a Google Doc - this document has image descriptions.
Feel free to contact me if the link stops working, or if you have questions (in good faith).
the intimacy of sleeping together, but not in a sexual way. the intimacy of feeling the warmth of their body in a cool room. their hands hugging you tightly. the intimacy of synchronized breathing. sleepy half-kisses. feeling safe. feeling warm. waking up and realizing how much you love them. how precious this is. finding the happiness on the tip of your fingers, brushing their hair. closing your eyes again. pulling closer. falling asleep.
after 4 years of drawing webcomics, this is my wisdom:
start now. now. now now now. or else you'll never draw this damn thing
it's fine if you don't have the entire story figured out yet, it'll happen naturally
draw what you want to draw!! webcomics often run for years, so you better work with something you like
don't overcomplicate things. a simple, efficient work flow is your top priority in order to stay consistent
bullshit some things. trace background refs. reuse poses. draw your character's face from different angles and just copy paste it in to save time. be smart about your work baby
take breaks if needed. webcomic burnout is real
sometimes, a panel or a page looks bad. shit happens. move on
lettering is actually really important and super hard to pull off
it's your comic. do what you want forever!!!
I'm begging you again to work smart, not hard. reuse backgrounds. use brush sets for webcomic artists. trace 3D objects. use 3D models to pose your characters
you may need hours or days to draw one panel, but people will look at it for 5-8 seconds. keep that in mind
a simple background is better than no background at all (avoiding the white void increases the quality of your work by a ton!)
sometimes the anatomy needs to be a little off to make an interesting shot/panel. that's fine, don't worry about it too much
at least 2000px canvas and 300 dpi for good quality results
it's okay to stop by the way. it's okay to move on from a project if you no longer find joy in it
at some point in your life you are going to do or say something racist, sexist, or otherwise bigoted. Your goal is not perfection, your goal is to be the kind of person that the people you've hurt feel safe being honest with when that happens.
ok so, I approached my local library with a proposal to donate a mural as a way to A: build portfolio/gain practical experience and B: give back to a beloved public institution. The director was very enthusiastic about it and i've been working on it since the beginning of March. Come with me as I endeavor to paint what is in all honesty an excessive amount of birds
I wanted the birds to look like they were actually in the space so first thing after doing the draft was to do a lighting study
after that I covered the walls in letters in lieu of a projector/vr headset bc i have neither of those :) Then i take a picture of the section of wall and superimpose the lineart over top of it so I can pencil in the lines
et voila
and that was a whole week on it's own so next comes the paintin' >:)
We gonna talk about Crater Lake, and Wizard Island and not mention the Old Man of the Lake?
The Old Man of the Lake is a log that floats around the lake. It is somewhat strange in that it floats vertically. It's roughly 30 feet tall, with only about 5 or so feet sticking out above the surface of the water. It was first 'offically' recorded in the early 20th century, though there are oral reports of it as far back as 1896 (and likely earlier still given the cultural importance of Crater Lake to the Klamath tribe of that area.
The Old Man should have rotted away long ago or at the very least become waterlogged and sank into the water fully, but nope. Over a hundred years, and there is this log still in the water just floating.
So y'know how I said the fact that it floats vertically was 'somewhat strange'? Let's get into some actual strange territory regarding the Old Man. It moves. Against the wind. It has been recorded moving in paths that do not make sense, never getting stuck on the shore of Wizard Island, nor the area of shore around the lake. Now that's strange.
So now let's get freaky: The free-floating Old Man posed a hazard to boats since it moves, and only a small portion of it was above water. (though personal boats are no longer allowed on the lake) Anyway, in 1988 a team was using a small submersible to explore the lake. The scientist figured it'd be a good idea to moor the Old Man near the coast of Wizard Island out of their way, for safety. So they tied some rope to it, to move the Old Man. As soon as they did so, the clear blue skies of a warm August day turned dark. The wind kicked up, bad, and it started to rain, then hail, then snow in the span of a few minutes...again in August. Now snow in that area is common, but not in the summer months. It gets super warm in that area in summer (like 70 to 90 degrees on average) So the scientists decided to nope the fuck out of the water, because of this freak storm. They unmoored the Old Man, preparing to get the fuck out of dodge of this summer snowstorm. As soon as the rope loosened and was in the water, as quickly as the storm had come on them, the darkened skies cleared and it was once more a fine sunny summer day.
As a kid, I spent my summers with my family who lives like... 40 some odd miles from Crater Lake National Park so I had this knowledge just kinda buried in my head somewhere.
As Google has worked to overtake the internet, its search algorithm has not just gotten worse. It has been designed to prioritize advertisers and popular pages often times excluding pages and content that better matches your search terms
As a writer in need of information for my stories, I find this unacceptable. As a proponent of availability of information so the populace can actually educate itself, it is unforgivable.
Below is a concise list of useful research sites compiled by Edward Clark over on Facebook. I was familiar with some, but not all of these.
