Robe Sword used by George IV at his coronation

Dated: circa 1821-2

Maker(s): George Thurkle on 15 New Street Square, London (goldsmith) and Rundell Bridge & Rundell (jeweller)

Medium: steel and gold

Measurements: overall lenght 87.4 cm

Provenance: sword taken from Coronation regalia of King George IV and was placed in Windsor Armoury by command of His Majesty King Edward VII in 1902

The sword feautres a gold hilt, quillons, large tang button, gold grip and gold pommel with the sides of pommel, grip, quillons all plain and burnished. The rest of the sword has cast and chiselld decoration: acanthus, the Tudor rose, foliage, cartouches, floral sprays, laurel and Britannia. The sword features a double-edged blade, a wooden scabbard, covered with black leather, gold mouthpiece and square chape decorated en suite.
