"I want to remember." (The Three Sisters X reader fanfic)
Note: Sorry if this isn't a true "x reader" story, due to it being a self-insert of myself into the story. The reasoning for this is because this is a more personal, specific experience to me that others may not fully understand. I'm also sorry if anything is OOC. Bold black text represents me speaking.
The Three Sisters had returned home after participating in a Grand Cookie Games event at the arena. However, on the counter, there was a piece of paper filled with hand-drawn symbols. They looked like they were in hooked-cross shapes, which of course worried both Choco Drizzle Cookie and Green Tea Mousse Cookie.
"What on Earthbread is this..?! Who would even draw such symbols?!"
"Well, it was just us three at the Grand Cookie Games, and Justis Cookie wanted to be alone while we were away, so I suspect it was him that did this. With how these... symbols look, I'm worried for him. Is he going through a dark time?"
Before she could continue on, Green Tea Mousse Cookie was interrupted by Pudding à la Mode Cookie's curiosity.
"Oooh, what do these symbols mean?! They look SUPER SWEET!!"
"B-baby sis!! Please don't look at these symbols..."
"Because these symbols aren't... very sweet symbols. Please go play somewhere else."
With that, Pudding à la Mode Cookie wandered back to her room, still pondering as to why she couldn't see the symbols. Hearing the commotion outside, I came out of my room to understand what was happening.
"Justis Cookie, we need to talk to you about these symbols that you've drawn."
"Did someone hurt you? Are you angry? Please tell us about your reasons."
"...Well, I'm drawing these symbols because I want to reconnect to my roots, to who I really am. I'm an Indigenous Prussian. I have connections back to both the German Prussians and to the original Baltic Prussians. These symbols are from the Baltic Prussians, and they represent different natural phenomena and deities."
"Prussian, huh? Please tell us about this 'Prussia' place. What's the story of your people?"
And thus, I began telling to Choco Drizzle Cookie and Green Tea Mousse Cookie the entire history of Prussia, from the initial Baltic Prussians all the way to the end. The two learned that my ancestors were victims of forced assimilation, slavery, genocide, and overall oppression, first initiated by the German Teutonic Knights. The Old Prussian language was forbidden, entire villages were burnt, entire populations killed and enslaved, all to try to Christianise and "civilise" the region... Mass immigration by German migrants also massively outnumbered the Native population. Old Prussians even died from being caught in between conflicts and from diseases brought over from those wars. Eventually, the Old Prussian language would be declared a dead language by the early 1700's, essentially making the Old Prussians an "extinct" distinct ethnic group, but the hardships didn't stop there. Between 1944 and 1945, my great-grandparents, natives of the Königsberg area, were forcibly expelled by the Soviet Red Army in the final stages of World War II, and had to move to Wolfsburg. Königsberg, as well as many parts of East Prussia, were heavily destroyed and ruined by the Red Army, the lands eventually divided between the Soviet Union and Poland, never again to be German or Baltic. My family has never been to the Königsberg, now Kaliningrad, area ever since 1945.
"Oh honey, that's... really sad to hear. I'm so sorry your people had to go through all of that."
"Please don't cry, Justis Cookie. You know we're always here for you, right? You can talk to me or my sisters about anything that plagues you."
"Not all hope is lost, my dearies... There's this movement that's trying to revive the Old Prussian language and culture, and me being a descendant of the original Baltic Prussians, of course I'd partake in it. Bands like Romowe Rikoito and Kūlgrinda have made songs in Old Prussian to hopefully revive it. Let me sing to you both a song in this language."
I pull up lyrics to the song I wanted, then with a deep breath, I began to sing them.
As kwāi minintun Prūsan, (I want to remember Prūsa,)
Stan wūran Prūsan tāutan. (That old Prussian land.)
As kwāi minintun amzin, (I want to remember the people,)
Minintun nūsan brātin. (To remember our brother.)
Twāis kērmens ast aulaūwuns, (Your body is dead,)
Aulaūwuns enwangiskan, (Dead at last,)
Sklāit gīwa, dabber dūsi, (Without life, still a soul,)
Sklāit gīwa, nōseilis. (Without life, without a spirit.)
Druwēimai mes, ainawārst, (We believe, at once,)
Tū etgīmsnan pagaūwuns. (Your revival has begun.)
Etkūmps twajā bilā jāu, (Again your language already,)
Bilā jāu tebbei šlūzi. (Already served you.)
Tū sīmtans mettans maīguns, (You have slept for hundreds of years,)
Maīguns - teinū etskīwuns. (Slept, but now arisen.)
Be mes etkūmps widāimai, (And we saw again,)
Widāimai wūran Prūsan. (We saw old Prussia.)
Sta ast prabūtska tautā, (It is the eternal land,)
Prabūtska Prūsa nusā. (Our eternal Prussia.)
Prūsan Deiwāi stāi debbai, (The Prussian Gods stood up with greatness,)
Stāi debbai Prūsan Deiwāi. (With greatness the Prussian Gods stood up.)
Wakēimai jūsans warrins, (We call your powers,)
Wakēimai jūsans kwāitans. (We call your volitions.)
Dāiti nūmans stans spārtins, (Give us those strengths,)
Dāiti nūmans stans warrins. (Give us those powers.)
Spārtinait(i) nūsan amzin! (Strengthen our people!)
"Oh my, honey! Your language... it's so beautiful! I really hope your people can thrive again some day!"
Hearing the singing, Pudding à la Mode Cookie came out of her room, assuming that the situation has changed.
"Hey sisters! I heard some sweet singing! Is everything okay now?"
"Well, baby sis... we learned that these symbols that Justis Cookie drew earlier are actually harmless - they represent things from his ancestors. However, we learned something darker along the way. Apparently, his ancestors were treated very badly by a group known as the 'Teutonic Order', and that they're still around. You're too young to know the details, but essentially, they're responsible for the end of his ancestral culture."
"Those MEANIES! Why would they destroy such a beautiful culture?!"
"Those peoples of his - the Old Prussians - were apparently preserving their ways of life deemed 'unacceptable' by the Order. They did some pretty messed up things to those people who were just trying to be who they were."
"If I see anyone from those horrible Teutonic Order guys, I'll blast them to nothing!"
"Baby sis! Not so harsh! I'm pretty sure they mean no harm nowadays, but we'll keep an eye on them just in case they do."
"Still, no matter what comes your way, we'll still love you the same way. You're so strong, and we'll let others know to support individuals like you!"
"...I feel kind of restful now... Care for me to rest with you three?"
"Of course, honey. People with such a rich Indigenous heritage like you need some rest in their lives."
I then went to the couch and started to rest my heavy eyes. Green Tea Mousse Cookie and Choco Drizzle Cookie both went over and hugged me to my sides, giving soft kisses to my cheeks. Pudding à la Mode Cookie, however, just hugged me. (Remember, Pudding à la Mode Cookie is purely platonic!) They ensured that no matter what happens to me, they will always love me the same.
Well, this was quite the fanfic I made! If I got anything wrong, please let me know!
