I always thought I was thankful. I’d thank God for my family, my friends, materials like my car and the fact I had a roof over my head. It was something I’m very glad I did and I wish a lot more people thanked our God for the blessings He’s given us. But I’ve found a way to be more thankful. When I hit one of the darkest times in my life, I didn’t know how to thank God for what I had. Because what I was missing was so very important. So I did the one thing the devil didn’t want from me. I thanked God for everything I didn’t have. I thanked Him for what I was missing. I thanked Him for the people who had walked out on me. I thanked Him for those who broke my heart. I thanked Him for my inability to stop loving those who were gone. It seemed irrational, but thanking God for the blessings I couldn’t hold was a blessing in itself. And now, I’m a better person for it. When I couldn’t find a way to heal my own heart, I took it, with all its broken pieces, gave it to Him, and thanked Him for every cut, bruise, and scrape I’d acquired upon it throughout my life. That’s when I fought evil with good. And that’s when He saved me…again.
