john & paul as a ghost story - part 1 // Man on the Run (2026)
i could watch brokeback mountain a million times and never not cry because it’s about the passage of time which is probably the saddest scariest thing in the world. they could have built a life together but ennis was afraid and he pushed jack away and there was so much space and time between them and then it was too late. the regret and the guilt and the being forced to grieve quietly….wishing things had been different wishing you had known better wishing there was still time, more time, one last time, any time. and the last scene i mean how doesn’t it kill you. One shirt inside the other like two bodies pressed together. shirts not worn in years. lost their smell. lost their purpose. like the fabric of a memory. it was TOO LATE do you understand….he could never get back there….to the good times. To his love. time kept moving on but their love never could. do you understand
speechless
John, Paul, and Jim McCartney: “—and in the end he chose me.” (a supplemental timeline)
[Paul] liked it with daddy and the brother… and obviously missed his mother. And his dad was the whole thing. Just simple things: he wouldn’t go against his dad and wear drainpipe trousers. And his dad was always trying to get me out of the group behind me back, I found out later. He’d say to George: “Why don’t you get rid of John, he’s just a lot of trouble. Cut your hair nice and wear baggy trousers,” like I was the bad influence because I was the eldest, so I had all the gear first usually.
So Paul was always like that. And I was always saying, “Face up to your dad, tell him to fuck off. He can’t hit you. You can kill him [laughs], he’s an old man.” I used to say, “Don’t take that shit off him.” Because I was always brought up by a woman, so maybe it was different. But I wouldn’t let the old man treat me like that. He treated Paul like a child all the time, cut his hair and telling him what to wear, at seventeen, eighteen.
But Paul would always give in to his dad. His dad told him to get a job, he fucking dropped the group and started working on the fucking lorries, saying, “I need a steady career.” We couldn’t believe it. So I said to him—my Aunt Mimi reminded me of this the other night—he rang up and said he’d got this job and couldn’t come to the group. So I told him on the phone, “Either come or you’re out.” So he had to make a decision between me and his dad then, and in the end he chose me. But it was a long trip.
— John Lennon, interview w/ Peter McCabe and Robert Schonfeld. (September, 1971)
(Note: I originally posted this on Livejournal some months ago, and figured it would be of reasonable interest and relevance here. The circumstances leading up to John’s implicit “Jim or me” ultimatum are as they have been presented in Mark Lewisohn’s The Beatles: All These Years – Tune In (2013), and I have included supplemental quotes from the same. The arguably fannish editorial focus and general contextual embroidery is mine.)

(3/4) George Harrison by Frank Fischbeck. Fischbeck snuck into The Beatles' hotel room pretending to be staff. They allowed him to stay and take photos, even after he was caught, Munich Germany (1966) Photographer: Frank Fischbeck

I’m sorry I usually rag on Beatles Reddit but this tale of Paul in the wild is sending me
Lol he was probably stoned but still precious AF.
You could print magical mystery tour George Harrison a million times if you wanted to
There is the video of the Beatles dissolution where George is running.
and the comments are often like this:
But what I've never seen people talking about how the actual reason why George is running in the video is because he was avoiding Klein's lawyers.
Loiacono went back to the Plaza at around 10 p.m. to wait for Harrison, this time reinforced by three additional private investigators. Two of them took up watch outside the hotel, while the third stood near the elevators at the Plaza’s 58th Street entrance. Loiacono positioned himself at the main elevator bank near the Plaza’s 59th Street entrance.
Within an hour, Harrison’s entourage arrived from Madison Square Garden. Imhoff immediately spotted Loiacono. To distract the process server, Imhoff began following him around the hotel lobby, asking questions while a cameraman and lighting assistant who happened to be with the Harrison group recorded the scene. This allowed Harrison the opportunity to bolt from his car and scurry through the hotel lobby into the safety of the hotel’s kitchen elevator.
They wanted to serve him Klein's lawsuit over the ownership of Harrisongs.
