Canopy of Neighbors is a nonprofit up in Buffalo, NY. They help seniors "age well and age independently in the community." And they are a good example of the 'village movement' that's been growing across the country, even before the pandemic. I don't know a lot of elderly asking to be placed in an old folks home. Hell, I don't know a lot of elderly period! But I do know by good measure that most people prefer to grow old in their own home, where they have lived for decades, and have created memories that could fade without surrounding reminders. It's hard growing old. You want your independence. You certainly don't want to be a burden to anyone. But you need help. The team at Canopy and their volunteers make that possible. They've created a community within which seniors can socialize at weekly events; they can get a ride to the doctor; or they can ask a volunteer to change a lightbulb (a very common necessity that their adult children, don't want to drive four hours to do for them, understandably.) This rebranding was challenging at first. Mostly because the founders (who are members) required I keep the wavy "C" from their original logo. At first I was thinking this piece would need hiding. There are ways to appease a client ask this like, and fade it, so that the solution isn't afflicted by it. But then, there are also mandatory aspects, like this one, that seem like a negative, but turn out to be a positive... After sketching on it for awhile, it clicked, as part of a pathway in a park or community, it blew the concept wide open! A weakness turned into a strength! THAT'S WHAT IM ALL ABOUT BABY 😜 The wavy "C" also adds a human (imperfect) aspect to what could otherwise be a pretty rigid logo. We also needed energy mixed with tranquility, professionalism and comfort. This was a very rewarding project as the organization is thrilled and even inspired by their new identity.
