Hernan Cortes

William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825-1905) was a French academic painter. His themes were mainly mythological, executed in the Realist style with an emphasis on the female human body.
Rare 1,800-year-old sarcophagus discovered in Ashkelon
A rare 1,800-year-old stone sarcophagus found by construction workers at a building site in the coastal city of Ashkelon has been appropriated by the Israel Antiquities Authority after the workers allegedly damaged the relic and concealed their discovery.
The IAA announced on Thursday that the valuable, ornately decorated stone tomb was seized by the authorityâs Unit for the Prevention of Antiquities Robbery on Wednesday, in coordination with detectives from the Ashkelon Police.
âThis is one of the rarest sarcophagi ever discovered in Israel,â the IAA said in a statement.
âThey decided to hide it, pulled it out of the ground with a tractor, while aggressively damaging it, concealed it beneath a stack of sheet metal and boards and poured a concrete floor in the lot so as to conceal any evidence of the existence of the antiquities site.â Read more.

For her entry into the biannual Sculpture by the Sea in Aarhus, Denmark, Swedish artist Susanna Hesselberg installed this ominous library that plumments into the ground like a mining shaft. While visually arresting, the piece has a somewhat somber intention. Titled âWhen My Father Died It Was Like a Whole Library Had Burned Down,â the artwork makes reference to lyrics from Laurie Andersonâs song World Without End. The piece joins an additional 55 sculptures on display right now at the 2015 Sculpture by the Sea through July 5, 2015. (via Hyperallergic)

...if the poll is broken down by race, 55 percent of black Americans believe that Roofâs actions deserved the terrorism label as opposed to just 37 percent of white Americans.
Only 41 percent of American adults believe the shooter at Emanuel A.M.E Church in Charleston, S.C. should be charged with terrorism, according to a CNN and ORC International poll.
Friedrich Ebert
