Stares a little blankly at her bloody hand. Eventually crawling onto the mare’s and putting it on her dad’s face. Their dog, a lumbering beast by the name of Hesse crawls up to lick it, getting in gethen’s mouth.
Startled awake Gethen shoves Ludalf back and pushes at the enormous dog to get it out of his face. Orienting himself enough he turns to glare at Ludalf.
“What are you doing?!”
Ludalf tilts her head, which by the way is slightly plastered with dried blood- and leans backwards until she falls next to him on the bed, staring at him with her eyes, basically the most visible part in the darkness. It’s certainly very late at night.
With one hand Gethen pets Hesse forcefully on the head to get him to calm down and stop moving so much. With his other hand he grabs Ludalfs chin tilting her head so that he can see the blood better even though it is still dark so he can hardly make out any details. At least it’s dried so there’s nothing immediately wrong.
“Ludalf. What happened?”
Lu, sleep deprived and a little confused seems to think that her father just wants her to open her mouth to see, and so she does, nighttime breath on his face. It’s not actually that bad but it’s still annoying. She seems relatively either unaware or just ignoring the blood . Could also be that she forgot about it. Her dad is very interesting to her, probably more so than whatever insanity went down.
Taking his hand off of Ludalfs chin he shakes his head and rubs his eyes. This kid. Nothing is ever normal with her is it?
“No, Ludalf. The blood, what happened?”
Without any writing materials and with it being dark it will be hard to communicate with her yet he still tries.
Ludalf frowns a little, already curling up against his side, it’s not uncommon for her to come to his bed in the middle of the night to sleep there it never really has been. He’s a heavy sleeper and she’s usually so quiet and passive that you don’t notice she’s even there until you wake up.
It’s not as usual for her to wake you up , covered in blood.
After tucking her head against his shoulder a little, she turns back up towards his face and makes a small noise by push pushing air through her teeth, making a sound that sounds faintly like how you imagine some sort of comic book explosion- “pshhh” The sound makes the air hiss around them and rattles several pieces of furniture.
Gethen presses a hand over Ludalfs mouth to get her to stop causing a minor earthquake in his room. Once she’s quiet he places his hand on the back of head and begins to lightly massage her scalp.
If he’s inferring right then some kind of explosion happened. Why would that happen anywhere near where Ludalf would be?
“We are training a healer, you understand that. You shoud have gone to her if you’re hurt.”
Hesse finally starts calming down and curls up against Gethen other side with its head resting on his stomach.
Ludalf bites her lip a little bit, but leans into the touch, passively closing her eyes. After a few moments, she touches a thin finger to his throat and then against the sides of his head, going outwards. Its happened a few times before. It's not great that this keeps happening. Hopefully it wasn't an elf.
Her feet, small and always freezing, touch your knees. She has her mother's height.
Right now it’s too much work to try and wrestle with such a stubborn kid to get out of his bed so he just pulls the meager blanket over her. Maybe it will warm her up so she’s a little less like an ice cube. He’ll have to deal with her injury tomorrow. This happens too often.
“I would appreciate a better explanation for this.”
Ludalf doesn’t do much, eventually drifting off against her father, through in her sleep she end up curled, and him around her. As the cold morning peaks through the windows, pale, white-ish blue light through the haze of clouds and snow, she wakes up, reflected in it.
She watches her dad breathe for a bit, fascinated by the contraction between his lungs, his throat, the absolute stillness that he seems to have despite it. Hesse at some point woke up and crawled to put his head on her dad’s feet, and she reaches down to pet him, noticing that her hands are dark with stains
Gethen wakes up to Ludalf staring at him again. The dried blood that paints the side of her face is more easily visible in the soft mornings light. While they slept some had ended up flaking off onto him and his bed. Great, he’d have to clean both.
Pushing himself into a more upright position with his elbows, Gethen keeps Ludalf propped up against his side and Hesse’s head weighing down his feet.
