Partying down on a Wednesday with a salty crew
Sloshball gnar Jess Rogers with the power drive
My sister made this rad video form our last couple weekends around Santa Barbara.
Notice the crutches in the car and the brace on her ankle- she’s injured but still crushing
Trying to name my boat- since i have a Hobie CAT i need a cat pun, I’m going for something fun, dirty, youthful, and the opposite of pretentious.- how’s this one sound?
Upon my cars 100,000th mile I'm reflecting on this very special tool and symbol of my life and freedom- It's all I needed to move from Oregon to California. It's crossed desserts and forests. It has brought me through sand to the beaches and through snow to the mountains. I've slept in it, I've cooked in it, I've kissed girls in it It's carried bikes and skis and surf boards, and even towed an 18ft boat. I scratched it, it's covered in dog hair, and I put a crease not the roof when I danced on it. It's a reminder everyday that a trip is just around the corner, whenever I'm ready for it. It's not a tough truck, or a roomy Subaru, and definitely not a trendy Vanagon, but it's mine, I rock out in I and I love it. Here's to another 100,000 rad miles.
Throwback to ten years ago when I was Skiing in Iran.
The recent diplomatic improvements between Iran and the rest of the world have got me thinking back to this trip i did with my family so long ago. Like a narrow-focused teenager would, I just went for the snow and the mountains. But I came away with a deep connection to the country and profound appreciation for how similar people are across the world. It was a really defining moment in my adolescence.
I hope in the next ten years that Iranians can see more of the world, the world sees more of Iran, and you know, we all can just get along better.
Can't a man just check a cornice in peace? #gnar #skiing #blissedoutstoke #watchmewhip
The first step is always the hardest one
guuuuhh what a pithy statement. Puh-leaase. But wait, i assure you, this will be in GETOUTSIDENOW theme.
Last weekend I awoke in a dizzy haze on an unfamiliar bed after a big keg party. Standard Saturday morning for young people everywhere, and like so many I wanted to just go back to bed, groan, and quietly die. But I had climbing plans and you can’t flake out on a climbing partner. So I crawled out of bed and painfully pulled my gear together. Pulling my pants on was like a V8 move in itself, the whole process was at least 13a.
I hiked to the crag hungover, i warmed up hung over, and tried my projects still hung over. I felt terrible, but I was still out and about, having a rad time with a friend, and actually climbed pretty damn well and on-sighted a 12c. It turned out to be a pretty great day, and when i look back that shouldn’t be a surprise. A lot of great days don’t start great. You are going to get sick, and tired, and busy, and stressed- but you can’t let that consume you. Its never going to be perfect, but its always going to be better than lying around the house waiting for things to get better.
And it isn’t just me, a lot of awesome times i’ve had with people have been when they’ve felt way under the weather
So if you’re feeling less than awesome this weekend, don’t let that stop you. Its never going to get harder than the first step of the day. Get out there, go slay it.
Very thankful for my friends from Portland who drove for 15 hours through the dark and snow to camp out and climb with me in the Sierras and share a delicious campfire thanksgiving feast. So fun and so frosty. I hope everyone found people, places, and food to be thankful for this weekend.
Its the weekend and i’m going camping and i’m like
Reflecting on my last year in climbing becomes a big blur of cracks, crimps, whips, sends, and good friends. Thanks for being the best climbing partners ever, I loved every second of it. I only wish you all could crush together someday- it would look like this.
My 15th year of climbing has been a ride around the world with old friends and new. From the best Euro limestone, to the splitterest American cracks, and all the choss in between. Across 4 countries and 4 american states, 18 or so different areas, i bouldered and traded and multi-pitched, I on-sighted my best, and sent my oldest projects, i got spanked on new styles and got better at my favorites. The rock was great but the people are what really counts when I look back at it all. Enjoy Sendtember everyone and I hope the next year is more killer than the last!
A good friend of mine told me her greatest dream was for all her friends, family, and everyone she loved to get together and have a good time. My dream is that, on a mountain. Here’s to all my friends who appreciated last year’s wacky season with me and pray for this year’s la nina!
GEAR REVIEW: The Mahalo U-30 Ukulele
Gear is essential for the outdoors, and gear reviews are essential for an outdoor blog. My friends and I put Mahalo’s entry level ukulele to the test at sea and 7,000 ft above sea level. The verdict: an essential item for any excursion.
A little motivation from little SakiBomb. The waves will always be there to push you back, just bust through and enjoy them.
Ancient velocult mantra
We’ve moved from the Northwest to So Cal and Saki dog is adjusting well to beach life. Surf and beach erryday, getting tans, catching waves, and living it up
In an effort to convince some friends to climb in the Utah dessert with me, I did a little photoshopping to help them visualize how awesome it will be.
