How long has the collective been drawing?

We started drawing sometime before we can remember, no later than Kindergarten for sure but most likely as early as preschool. We’re primarily selves-taught, I think we’ve only had two actual art classes? Several of us just spent most of our time in school drawing instead of doing whatever we should have been doing.

For a few years after school, Life Happened and we didn’t have as many opportunities to draw for hours a day, and then a couple years ago we started seriously revamping and studying to get our collective art style to our liking. Currently [4/25/2017] we’re focusing on stuff like different hair textures and which lines to include when doing various nose shapes, along with color theory in general.

Do you ever lose time?

Collectively, yes. It happens less frequently when we’re able to prioritize intra-collective communication, and more frequently when we’re in the midst of a bad life situation that makes it harder for us to communicate with each other. Personally, I’m pretty well-connected and don’t miss much.

If I’m not talking to/hanging out with the spouse, there’s a decent chance I have little to no idea what the body’s doing.

Are any members of the system not human?

Renata

Quite a few. 

There are several plushies, especially in Sy's subsystem, likely due in part to the fact that we've been collecting plushies since the body was born. Most non-plushie non-humans are synthetics, animals, shadowfolk, or various types of undead. 

And a handful of the humans are polymorphic in the innerverse, if that’s semi-relevant.

[Added on 4/16/2017] We now also have some Gems (of the Gem alien species in Steven Universe, not specific characters from the show), more synthetics/robots, a few shapeshifters, and an alien.

Is anyone a fictive or factive?

Renata

We’re actually still pretty new to the terms “fictive” and “factive” - as in, we’d never heard of them until joining Tumblr in 2013. Back in ‘05 they were just called introjects.

We don’t have any of either. (That we currently know of, anyway - no promises about pre-1998, since we remember so little.) Some collective members (ex: N1N3, Tatter, Deyva, CJ) have identified strongly with various characters and drawn inspiration from their forms, but we don’t have any who consider themselves to actually be those characters.

Also we have Memorie, who isn’t quite an introject of a past abuser, but is a shapeshifter and takes on their form for persecutory purposes. But again, he doesn’t consider himself to actually be them.

Are there any littles in your system?

We don’t refer to our younger collective members as “littles” the same way we don’t refer to older collective members as “bigs.” 

When talking about particular age ranges within the collective, we tend to use the following shorthand phrases:

- Age 2 to 3: “toddlerfolk”

- Age 4 to 9: “younger folk” or “kidfolk”

- Age 10 to 12: “younger folk,” “kidfolk,” or “tweenfolk”

- Age 13 to 19: “teenfolk”

- Age 20+: “older folk”

Does eyesight or handwriting change when you switch?

We learned early on that to blend in we would need to decide on a handwriting we could all use in school without drawing attention. In spite of that, some of us write our letters more closely cramped together or more widely spaced out, slanted one way or the other to different degrees, more messily than others, et cetera.

As for eyesight, the body’s is getting worse by the day, but there doesn’t seem to be much difference between us in that regard. However, our vision can become cloudy or sepia-ish during meltdowns or hardcore dissociation, and some of us are more prone to meltdowns and hardcore dissociation than others.
