"You aren’t being very subtle," he lowly murmurs between breaths, palms flat against the ground as he neared the end of his rounds of pushups. He felt the eyes watching his movements even before he heard the footsteps approach.

     Wolfram takes a step or two more towards the center of the hallway outside the wolf's cell. "I wasn't trying to be subtle, kid." he said, noting the young one's form, all the small things it told him about the wolf before he'd even said another word. "I could, but that might startle you. It would make this much less fun."

"Respect should be earned, so it needs a second."

[He replied evenly, though his breath was laboured as the wolf’s grip didn’t once loosen and his neck was starting to hurt. He listened to the wolf as he said he’d give him a chance and supposed he should be grateful so he let out a breath.]

"Yes. Now, can you put me down please and we can start again."

    Wolfram's glare hardened at such a response. "I think, human, you are mistaken. In this situation, the only respect that needing to be earned is my respect for you. You are off to quite a bad start." Most humans he found worthy of his respect right off the bat, they were kind to him and he was kind to them. If they were not, they met a swift end. The rules in this city such as they were made that impossible, but he would not tolerate a boy, a mere child, speaking to him in such a way, especially with his incorrect notions. He loosened his grip on the boy's throat. "Now, try again. What is it you want? I am eating in the yard of my home. You've disturbed me. If there is no reason, I suggest you leave."

Nightmare || Adelaide and Wolfram

"How did you get out? You’re not a slave now." Of course, as a werewolf, he had much longer to get out of slavery than she had. She was a human and now that she was a slave she would more than likely always be one. She knew better than to hope for anything different. His question took her by surprise and it took her a few quiet moments of thought before she could come up with any sort of answer. "I… Its more than physical strength, I think. I need to… to do whatever it takes to stay alive."

   His kind smile did not leave his face as he spoke. Innocent question from an innocent babe. “A way i assume you not capable of,” he said, leaning into the bars a bit closer, “I ended my slaver’s life.” As young and pure as this one appeared to be, Wolfram felt it kinder to leave the details unsaid. He did not rush her answer, as he knew it was not such an easy response to give. “True. Though whatever it takes can vary much from creature to creature, it is not so much part of the strength you need. What is necessary is to never give up hope.” It was difficult in a place such as this, he was well aware, but hope was the only thing that had saved him. “Hope, or whatever faith you may have left.” Silence blanketed them, despite the cries coming from just down the hall, and he waved a guard over, “Would you like to continue this conversation, perhaps over dinner?”

Alastair felt like shrinking into himself. This wolf felt oddly intimidating in comparison to the ones he was used to dealing with. Still, blue eyes met darker ones, mostly out of politeness. “…5 months.”

     He was not surprised by the fear, as many feared him, but the number he was given was definitely a surprise. Wolfram smiled, acknowledging the polite gesture before speaking, his tone almost one of awe. "Nothing more than a babe. How came you to this city?"

"Oh…I…" He wasn’t sure what else to say, so he simply watched the wolf for a moment. "Was there something you needed, sir?"

    The age of many vampires in this town were dwarfed by Wolfram's, but he had not often encountered a vampire that held himself as little higher than a slave, as so...human. "How long since you were turned?" he asked, quirking an eyebrow, still watching closely.

[Daryl often got mistaken for being disrespectful, but he respected those above him, it was drilled in to him as a soldier, and then again as a slave, he simply liked to make people earn that respect. And he didn’t have a chance to show that before the master was gripping his throat and Daryl breathed steadily as he looked at the other male.]

"I am respectful, you didn’t give me a chance."

[He grunted out, barely able to speak thanks to a strong warm grip that told Daryl this master was a wolf.]

     He did not shake his head, his face betrayed no emotion, just as he was taught so long ago. "Boy," the wolf's speech was even, calm, "One need be given no chance for respect. Respect should always be present." The set of this one's jaw told him enough about the human, how he had come to have such an attitude about life, and about masters and mistresses. He had not come to this city by choice, though few slaves ever had he was sure. Fingers stayed coiled around his neck, and Wolfram did not tighten his grip. "If I am to give you a chance, you will take it for the gift that it is, do you understand?"

She nodded slightly when he asked if she wanted to know like a secret. She felt like a little girl next to this man and while she thought she would normally hate that feeling, in this case it helped. She felt like a little girl that was being taken care of, in some way, and that helped. “You- Really?” It was hard to reconcile the image of this man looming over her with that of a slave. “I don’t know how to be strong.”

    His head inclined in a nod, "Long ago, when I was little more than a pup. A betrayal forced the hand of the tribe's chief, and off I was sold." It had been so long since then, yet Wolfram could remember it as though it were yesterday, the look on his brother's face as they were separated, sold to different people, taken to different lands. Humans, young humans, were not strong by nature, so her words came as no surprise. "It may be harder for some," a warrior tribe instilled strength in the first memories of its young, humanity had not done the same for ages, it would be much more difficult for this one, he could already tell. "What do you think strength entails for one such as you, youngling?"

"No shit?" Nathaniel glanced at the other, frown on his lips. "Because I had no clue.” Pride was his forte, but sarcasm came a close second.

    "No need for sarcasm," Wolfram crossed his arms over his chest. "I don't see the reason to announce unnecessary things. Would you care for an audience while swimming?"

"I suppose I have lived a blessed life… Still though, surely you don’t like to be stared at?"

    The wolf chuckled. "Being stared at has been a constant in my life. I have never minded."

"The d-dream is gone, but I’m still a slave and that still terrifies me." She spoke quietly, though her words were honest. She hadn’t been that flat out honest with anyone since she had arrived and speaking the words aloud was almost a relief. The man’s voice was kind and she wasn’t sure why. She kept expecting people to lash out at her and hurt her, not use kind words that somehow soothed her some.

    Wolfram offered a smile. He did not chuckle, though his stance was still gentle. Many cultures indulged in slavery, this city was not revolutionary in that aspect. "Would you like to know a secret, youngling?" His knees still bent, he looked the young one in the eyes, "I know that feeling." He rose, unfurling himself again. The sight of a warrior standing tall was imposing, . "Millennia ago, when the sun was the only light we had, I wore those bonds as well. They can be frightening, but to survive, you must be strong."

"I—Can I help you? I don’t mean to be rude, but it’s really uncomfortable to be stared at…"

    "If people's eyes are all you're worried about, then you're living a blessed life, fledgling."

    "I believe," he said, "your skin may be cold enough to not make that matter much."

Addie flinched when someone stopped in front of her cell. She hadn’t meant to get attention from anyone, especially when she felt so vulnerable. “I… I-It was just a dream. ‘M sorry. I didn’t mean to.” She avoided his eyes, terrified that if she met them she would see anger there.

    Though he was ancient compared to this veritable babe, Wolfram was able to hide his years to some extent. Crouching down, as not to frighten her, he watched closely, "It's all right. Whatever terrifies you so is gone now. You need not worry." His voice was kind, almost deceptively so, though his words were true, his kindness approaching sincere. Once he had been a warrior, and a warrior's heart still beat in his chest, but the need for war was nowhere to be found in this young one's cell.

    Wolfram looked at him closely. "Do you no longer wish for your item? Shall I alert the staff to the vandal, then? Take your item and go about your business."

Fresh Air || Thomas and {Wolfram}

He didn’t wander off too far from Roderick’s house. Just a simple walk, needing out in the open for some fresh air. Last he knew, Connor was getting in trouble and with his heightened hearing, it was just too awkward to stay around. He wasn’t going anywhere specific, just aimlessly strolling as he lit up a cigarette after replacing the pack and lighter in his pocket. It was so deceiving how as the dark of night took over, the city almost seemed… peaceful and normal. If he didn’t pay too much attention, Thomas could swear he was back in Paris, just out on a smoke broke at work and eager to get home to his brother. It was a good thing he wasn’t so foolish to believe it.

His thoughts were interrupted as he picked up on a scent, taking a slow drag and let the smoke out even slower. “You’d might as well show yourself. I know you’re there,” he said quietly, tucking the cigarette between his lips as he glanced in the direction of which the scent came from.

     The city was large, almost deceptively so, and Wolfram needed to diagram it all in his mind. When one had lived as many lives as he, in as many places as he, knowing the layout was essential. He didn't expect the city to come under siege--though he had heard of the hunter's strike, the city's improvements were visible as he walked in the gates for the first time. It would take a lot. This city was, on the outside, like every other city. Buildings and walls, windows and alleyways, the refuse smelled like refuse always did, the stench permeating everything though he was surprised it was so strong. Wolves, somehow, stood for this stench.

     When called out, a chuckle rang out of the alleyway. "I was unaware I was supposed to be hiding. Is a man not allowed to walk similar streets to you, young one?" Closing the distance, the elder wolf grabbed the package and pulled himself a cigarette. "Share your light with me."

Under New Ownership || Aristaios and Open

It was the wolf’s first time stepping into the bar since Alec gave it to him. He turned on the lights, not being too long before opening hours. It was still a trip to him, having not quite yet wrapped his mind around it fully. He went around, pulling the chairs down from the tables and placing them on the floor, as well as got the pool and card tables set up accordingly. Once it was all done, he went behind the bar, grabbing a glass and a bottle of bourbon. Leaning on the bar top, he drank from the glass as he somewhat stared off into the environment of his new business, blinking out only when he caught a scent close by.

     Having only gotten to the city a few days ago, Wolfram knew no one's stories, nor did he truly care, all things considered. The lay of the land was important, knowing where the best places to eat, to enjoy, were, and that was his mission for today. The wind blew through the trees, and he closed his eyes, letting his feet carry him without care. It wasn't long before he found himself at the Rusty Nail, and at the window, he watched the set-up. It was not his intention to hide, and when he was spotted, his stance softened only slightly. All he gave was an incline of his head in greeting, a brow quirked in inquiry.
