im 14 and my girlfriend is 16.5 and the stuff around wendy x dipper makes me worried people think our age gap is weird

Normally I don’t allow minors to send in confessions (we have a “No Minors” rule so please keep that in mind next time and please read our rules closely). But I will make this one exception to say this.

Two real people and two fictional characters are very different things. At the end of the day a fictional ship is just that, a fictional ship. So I don’t recommend you compare yourselves to fictional ships like that (which, people’s reaction to a fictional ship is generally ridiculous in my opinion).

In real life between two real people, I can see how your age gap can be fairly contentious. It’s kind of like how it’s problematic for a high school senior to date a freshman. Personally I’m of the opinion that when you’re a minor, you should stick to dating folks closer in your age range. Age gaps amongst two adults are fine because you’re both adults. Age gaps between two minors is a little more complex and can veer on really weird and even unsafe territory. Again, this is why seniors dating freshmen is seen as a really not good thing. It’s a complex and nuance discussion and I’m not going to really get into it too much further as that would be off topic. But basically, I just reccomend being careful. And again, try not to compare yourself to a fictional characters. That’s my opinion.

Fictional characters - they’re not real therefore I do not care

Two real people - very different discussion and can actually cause harm to those involved.

I’m an avid Stanbel shipper! There’s just something so sweet about how much he comforts her and uses all those endearments you just don’t see him use anywhere else like sweetie and pumpkin! <3

Saw someone say on here that Stan and Ford are undateable but honestly if you have the makings of personality like those they hold close I can see it working out. Ford loves Dipper for shared curiosity and admiration of the strange (ignoring the fact he doesn’t say no to him) and Stan love Mabel for how kind and goofy she is with a shared love of family

Knowing that, is it really so hard to believe someone can ship Stanbel (or any pines ship really) without it being a kinky sex thing?

Tbh once a ship is labeled as ‘problematic’ it doesn’t really matter how you ship it, people will always find a reason to complain and make their own personal discomfort and ick towards it everyone’s problem. If you ask me, regardless if it’s for wholesome reasons, or freaky fetish reasons, it’s just a fictional ship and thus all reasons are valid.

I think I can understand where you’re coming from, but (and maybe I’m just misunderstanding) I don’t think people seeing Ford as an SA victim and then creating or liking content with non-con/elements of non-con content or jokes is all that hypocritical. If they headcannon that he was an SA victim, it would make sense since normally people create or like content or jokes based on their interpretations. Now im not sure if that is how you meant it, so if what you actually meant was to say that people that harassed and mistreated those who HC him as an SA victim are hypocritical because they then turn around and like or make noncon-esqu content or jokes, then yeah that’s hypocritical and annoying. At least that’s what I think.

Billford is a pros proship and not enough people consider it as such. It's abusive, it's xenophilia, it's grooming (somehow from both perspectives), etc etc. No matter how many AUs with human or redeemed Bill you make, at it's core Billford is a proship. I'm not saying people shouldn't ship it because that's none of my business, I'm just saying that people should just accept the truth about the ship.

I totally get where you’re coming from, Anon. But I do need to correct you on how you’re using the term ‘Proship’, because I do feel you’re using it incorrectly. Proship doesn’t stand for ‘problematic ship’. Proship simply means someone who believes in ‘ship and let ship’ fandom etiquette (aka not harassing people over fictional ships). This is why someone can be a proshipper without even shipping or liking anything ‘problematic’, as long as you adhere to fandom etiquette that’s what it’s about. With that in mind, ALL ships fall under the idea of ‘Proship’. What you are describing and what would be a more appropriate label for Billford, would be Comship, which means a ‘complex ship’ due to the relationship having toxic or controversial dynamics.

I’m only correcting this because I find it very important to use words correctly and because ignorant people will purposely misdefine and misrepresent terms for their own narratives, and I don’t tolerate misinformation (not saying you’re spreading misinformation, Anon. This is just me going on a bit of a tangent towards people that have more malicious intent). But I digress.

Over all I do agree with you. People act like this ship is better and more ‘morally superior’ to other ships some consider controversial when really, it’s not any different. Just a different font.
