Poverty is a political choice. This is why the low government spending ideology of conservatism is dangerous - it literally kills people. The money to fund social services exists and yet the rich get more tax cuts, meaning government spending needs to be cut, and for some reason social services are first on the chopping block - not subsidies to fossil fuel companies, bloated military spending, expensive private contracts given to political donors.
People say “what radicalised you?” when learning about the injustice of the world transforming people into left-wing activists but I argue it’s the opposite. You were raised in a world where cruelty and dangerous ideas were normalised by right-wing thinktanks, governments, and media. Seeing the injustice in the world as no longer normal is de-radicalising you.
