I was supposed to sleep in the daytime for this night shift but I just could never relax. It felt so impossible, especially with these graphic nightmares I've been getting. I don't wanna see the horrific things I see in my sleep. It makes me so confused, sometimes I can barely tell if it was a dream or not, that's how realistic it felt.

Slouching on the desk, I tried to tune out the funky daycare song that seemed to play on repeat. I felt eyes on me as I took a deep sigh and rested my head into my hands to gain some sort of sanctuary from the fatigue. "Am I that boring?"

A slow, raspy voice spoke to me from atop the jungle gym. Leaping from the side to bounce back against the wire bolted to his back, landing on the ground perfectly. Unclipping the wire, he came towards me and leaned against the desk in front of me. With barely any light, it was hard to make out what I was looking at until I flickered my eyes up to see bright red practically boring into my soul. Could he be MORE creepy?

"No, no. I never said that. I'm just tired. I'm not sleeping well." I spoke in a quiet voice towards the end of my sentence. I rubbed my eyes before looking over at a box full of purplish-blue sweets. I heard they can help you relax, even if they're for kids. I decided to take a few and sit in the soft play area for a while. I felt like I'd get in trouble for this...

"Ah, ah, ah... I see... Nightmares, I presume. I'm sorry, I wish I could take them away." The robot spoke to me in a soft voice. Almost human-like emotions came from this hunk of metal. Weird, but nice. Comforting. "Those candies should help a little. In the meantime, perhaps I can help..."

The thing is, I wasn't sure if it would help. I'd tried everything; therapy, medications, even yoga. Nothing got these graphic thoughts to go away.

It's scary to think something like that will never go away. I wanted an answer, some sort of help.

There was a sofa inside the daycare, specifically for the parents waiting to pick up their children. I decided it wouldn't be such a big deal for me to just rest my head a little.

Unexpectedly, Moon sat next to me as best he could, barely fitting on the end of the sofa. "Come here." He spoke softly. Again. Something about his voice gave me so much comfort. That's when I started to feel the gummies work; my mind went a little hazy and my vision blurred slightly. I think he had noticed as my eyes started to hood a little.

I turned to look at Moon and after a few seconds, he gently scooped my shoulders with his large, steel hands and gently rested my head against his lap. This is when my face lit up bright red. "T-Thanks, Moon..."

He began to hum a soft tune to me and as he hummed, his face and body began to glow a soft blue. He felt like a heating pad right now; the lights behind his skin beginning to warm him up.

Considering he was made of metal, it was surprisingly comfortable. He gently stroked his hand through my hair, almost as if he was feeling every single strand. He jingled as he moved.

"Rest your eyes, doll... Everything will be okay."

I think a lot of us forget that witchcraft isn't always sitting at your altar and actively practicing with spell jars and tarot. It can be many things outside of that, things that you may already do in your daily life.

If you shower, you're not just showering. You're cleansing yourself of things weighing you down; you're preparing yourself to face the day or night ahead of you. It can be a very potent moment in your life and you didn't even think of it.

Watering your plants isn't just making sure they're alive and well: it's feeding things that you've grown and keeping your space alive. Youre caring for your space and that takes effort.

Every craft and project you do isn't just fun doodles. You grow with every new thing you try and that's pretty darn cool.

It's all about you, it always has been. Caring for yourself is just as important and even more important than knowing what card you draw next.

Here, we'll combine a classics fall craft with a little abundance magick.

You'll need :

String

Pinecone[s]

Peanut butter

Birdseed

Plate

Begin by tying a loop of string to the end of a pinecone, make it as long as you need to in order to hang your finished treat from an outdoor tree or hook.

Next, use a butter knife or spoon to spread peanut butter generously on the pinecone. Be sure to get it into the crevices.

Pour birdseed onto the plate, then roll the peanut butter covered pinecone in the seed, coating it.

As you roll, visualize your household full of warmth, health, prosperity, and say :

By bird and cone and hearty seed, we welcome friends come round to feed.

Of warmth and love in autumns chill, may all who dwell here get their fill.

How to Set Intentions

Always in witchcraft there is going to be a spell or ritual that asks you to set your intentions in order to reach the goal desired. We always hear “set your intentions”, but we never get to hear how to set your intentions. Here, I’m going to give you a step by step guide on how to set your intentions for rituals, spells and anything else that requires your focus.

1. Write down your primary ideas for what you want your intention to be about

Example:  I want to be rich, I want to be able to buy things without worry of money, I want to have more tangible assets

2. Analyze your ideas for common themes. What is the main goal you are trying to reach?

Example: Money, Abundance, Wealth

3. Use the themes found to identify your intention. Always be as precise as possible.

Example: I will have an abundance of money, I will have excess cash to live comfortably

4. Write your intention on a specific piece of paper with as few words as possible, but be very specific.

These simple steps will allow you to understand how to set your intentions in an exact manner which will strengthen any spell or ritual you plan on doing. I hope this helped. Thank you for reading!

The Autumnal Equinox: Finding balance as the cycle ends

With the happy, chaotic vibes of summer coming to a close, we welcome in the more introspective part of the year. It is a time to withdraw, to cleanse, to give thanks for what we have grown in the year and prepare that which we are ready to discard on the Feast of Ashes in October. 

Often this is a time to gather with those you care about, or simply revel in your love of self and reflect on the dropping temperatures and changing leaves. The bounty of the late summer garden gives way to roots and gourds and the last of the herb garden offerings. 

Like the Spring Equinox, this period marks a time of equal day and night, making it a good time for magic that relates to reining in bad habits, finding peace in a busy lifestyle, or bringing harmony to a household in strife. Unlike the Spring Equinox, however, which focuses on bringing balance to restore energy and vigor for growth the Autumnal Equinox welcomes you to bring balance for a proper rest. It’s energy asks you to appreciate everything you have done, big or small, and prepare for the darker half of the year by gathering up all of your grief, fear, anxiety and exhaustion in bundles before you so you can be ready to let them go. For we cannot release what we do not need if you don’’t first examine what we have and who we are. 

I will share with you some of my traditions for this time of year, to give you an idea of the kind of productive magical and mundane work you can do to prepare yourself for the waning light. As someone with SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), I find that my transition into Fall is very important to my mental health as it reminds me to let go of what I cannot control. 

Some good Autumnal Equinox traditions:

🍁 Just like Spring Cleaning, you can do some Fall Cleaning and prepping your house for the colder months. Put out your cold weather clothes (if appropriate for the time) and go through your warm weather things to bag up what doesn’t fit anymore or is unwanted anymore to give to secondhand stores or repurpose into other things (old t-shirts make nice dusting clothes~!), check windows for drafts, clean the fireplace and chimney if you have one, polish up your kitchen and pantry, sweep and mop floors and reset any wards or protection magics you have on your space. 

🍁 If you are so inclined, the first day of Fall is a perfect day to decorate for Halloween and for the season! You can make a ritual out of it like I do by sipping hot apple cider and playing some spooky or seasonally associated music (I tend to gravitate toward richer, warmer folk music around this time of year!)

🍁 This is the second harvest holiday, and I personally strongly link this time of year to apples, so you could go apple picking and afterwards make an apple ie charmed to bring peace and happiness to those who eat it! Or if you picked a lot of apples make a happiness applesauce! You can also slice up apples and cook them in the oven to make apple chips for teas or just to snack on.

🍁 If you are looking to bring balance into some aspect of your life, consider setting up a white candle and a black candle on your altar (or perhaps a yellow/gold and blue/silver set would work too!) As you work your magic for the day, the candles will invoke the equinox spirit into your working! If you cannot have candles, you can use a sunstone and a moonstone, or you could use clay or paper colored with your desired hues depicting balance. 

🍁 If the weather is fair and you have one near you, I find that visiting a river or stream is particularly nice as they are a body of Water, which is linked to emotions and also to the properties of motion and overcoming obstacles. If you find that you are having trouble coming to terms with some aspect of yourself or an event in your life, spending time near a river or placing a river stone on your altar might help you. 

These are just a few ideas of how to bring the Equinox energies into your home and to use them in your practice. Other popular activities include feasting, offering appropriate gifts to spirits of the land and home, having a bon fire, and tying natural strings to trees  as a form of wish making.
