Freyja pulled her phone from her back pocket as she stepped out of the train station and began walking back to her parents' house. Her thumbs moved across the screen as she replied to one of the many messages her best friend had left during her shift at work.
She looks up from the conversation as a speeding ambulance passes by catching her attention. Out of curiosity, her eyes follow the flashing lights down the street and a small gasp escapes her lips as they stop behind two others already parked in front of her parents' house.
She taps a quick message and stuffs the phone back into her pocket as she picks up the pace of her steps. Nearing the house, she can see other vehicles parked in the driveway and along the street. Her heartbeat quickens as different scenarios play through her thoughts.
Switching over to a new storyline for the new year as part of the horror universe save file I'm building. This one, with all of the others I have cooking, will be available in its at my site https://ghastlysims.wordpress.com/ I will also be posting shortened versions here and on my Twitter account.
An ancient evil is awakened when an archaeologist brings a statue home from deep in the old-world forests of Eastern Europe. Can Freyja stop the spirit of the relic or will she just become its latest victim?
The party ended without any further incident. Lou stayed a while after everyone else left to make sure Lor was okay while the repair person was there and to help set up the toys and furniture Po got for her birthday.
Lou was the first to come up with a plan. Turns out he knows a heck of a lot about werewolves. He says he just reads a lot but... Anyway. He managed to calm everyone down, including Rory, and save Po.
The birthday party was turning out to be an absolute disaster. Not only was there a werewolf rampaging in the apartment, but it was in there alone with the baby. Lor hit complete panic mode as everyone tried to form a plan to save Potato.
Po's birthday party was off to a great start until the werewolf showed up. Lor didn't even know that was a thing that COULD happen. It was a nightmare. So much yelling. So much destruction. So much drool. Everyone was terrified
It turns out baking a cake is SUPER hard. Especially when you keep falling asleep because the baby kept you up all night. Thankfully the iced latte delivery came right on time. Lor just hoped it would be enough to keep her awake.
After the last invite went out it was time to make the cake. Lor had never baked a cake before, but it couldn't be that hard..
It had been a rough week. Being a mom was so hard sometimes, but breaking up with Alex really made things so much worse. Still, she couldn't justify letting him around Po if he was going to be so irresponsible. It wasn't like he made that much effort to be in her life anyway.
It was a welcome sight when Myles came over to check on her and help her plan Po's birthday party. She had fallen out of touch with most of her friends over the past year and was so ready to reconnect with everyone.
It had been a month of life with a new baby and Lor was overwhelmed. Knowing she needed to find an outlet she hired a nanny for the day to go to the spa.
After a nice mud bath and a yoga class, she took the extra time she had left to stop in the meditation room. She could use a chance to clear her thoughts and refocus.
Unfortunately, two women walked in, deciding to ignore Lor and use the room to dance and chat instead. It seemed that no one in this town had any manners anymore.
That baby can wait, I need to tweet about this...
TFW you've had a really long day and just want to enjoy some cake your neighbor randomly showed up and made but your kid decides now's the time to be born.
“No problem,” Hazel said in a near whisper, demanding herself to get it together. “Is there something I can help you with?” She finally met her gaze with his as she re-adjusted herself to sit facing away from the bar again. It was the man from earlier that the bartender was arguing with. Now that he was closer, Hazel could see that the T-shirt he was wearing was nearly reflective. It was so crisp and white. However, quite in contrast to his pristine clothing, his face had several large scars across it and dark red veins traced through his bloodshot eyes.
“I think maybe it’s the other way around.” He grinned before taking the seat next to her at the bar.
Hazel adjusted herself again, returning to her original position before grabbing the green drink she had set down. Peering down into the cup to assess how much she had left, she raised an eyebrow. “And how is that?”
As Hazel watched the pair, she could see that they were in a heated conversation. The bartender appeared to be yelling at him, occasionally glancing down at her phone as though waiting for a call. While clearly not shaken by her yelling, the man would occasionally laugh or attempt to raise a hand to her cheek as he spoke. For a brief moment, the pair both glanced over in Hazel’s direction. Her heart sank as their eyes met, confirming that they had caught her watching them. Unsure of what to do, Hazel spun around and faced the bar again. One of the waitresses had taken over serving for the moment. Hazel waved her down, pointing to her bank card on the back of the bar, and requested a drink. The last thing she needed was more alcohol if she was going in these tunnels… especially if she was going alone… but the day had been going terribly, so if there was ever a day she really needed a drink, it was today.
Hazel sat sipping at the neon green contents of a plastic cup, trying to decide what to do. It seemed the bartender had gotten so wrapped up in her own day that she completely forgot about Hazel’s problems. She couldn’t blame her, though. It seemed that she just had to go into the tunnels alone. For a moment, she considered going home to get Theo, but he would just slow her down or start whining. Besides, she refused to do something that might put him in danger. It was up to her to protect him now. They were the only ones left. Sure, they had their aunt, but truth be told, she never really seemed to care all that much, anyway. Hazel still had a grudge against her for forcing her to go to all the therapy she had endured for the past few years. Even though she knew it was in her best interest, she was resentful that it was something she needed.
The sun had almost completely disappeared into the treeline as Hazel finished her second cider. She turned on her barstool, leaning back onto her elbows against the cold metal of the bar as she gazed out over the large group of people now gathered in the field. Part of her almost expected to see Lou walking through the crowd. She had no idea what she would even say to him if he did. Would he even want to talk to her anymore?
As much as she tried to tell herself she didn’t want to talk to him, she knew that was a lie. The more she tried to fight it, she knew that there was no denying the fact that she had spent so many years thinking about him, too. After all the summers exploring the woods together, she didn’t even get to say goodbye when her family forced her to move in with her aunt. She spent many sleepless nights wondering about her old friend. What did he look like now that he was older? What did he do with his life? Did he ever think about her? To finally have an answer to many of those questions, only to have it ripped away from her, felt unbearable.
It made sense but then again it didn’t. Lou had been so sweet up until that last minute they were together. Was this guy really someone who had been to jail? Had he just forgotten to tell her that part? Did he just expect her to not care? But the more she thought about it she almost felt sorry for him.
He hadn’t been forthcoming with his story but she could always sense that there was something painful he was hiding from her. Was this it? And did it explain what had happened? But why? Why so suddenly? Hazel gave the bartender a confused glance. Was this woman telling her the truth? She had no reason to lie to her though, she barely even knew her.
“Look. I’m sorry to be the one to tell you.” She gave Hazel a sad look before turning to grab a credit card a man was handing to her as he shouted his order. “but I’m sure you two will figure it out.” She gave Hazel a reassuring grin before completely turning her attention to other customers.
Hazel sat sadly drinking her cider as the evening changed more to night and the crickets began to sing their nightly song in the tall grass that surrounded her. It seemed that things were just getting worse by the day. Maybe she shouldn’t have come to Moonwood at all. She certainly wasn’t doing anything to help her dad. She took another swig of her cider as she turned around, leaning her elbows back onto the bar as she looked over the crowd that had formed around the firepit.
