"Hopefully this wont bite me in the ass." Karkat thought to himself as he followed the somehow excited, exhaustedly looking blonde.
How she was able to navigate in this building was amazing by itself since Karkat couldn’t even get any landmarks for any of the halls or rooms. When he was taking a moment to memorize a certain stain on the wall to somehow make a mental map, Roxy called for him.
"Yea, yea, I’m coming, you can hold your bloody horses, unicorns, or what other running hoof beast you may like."
Karkat then paused when he noticed Roxy’s sudden stiffiness in her body and face. Right as he was about to ask what was wrong, she exploded yelling at some unknown figure. He blinked a few times, but shook it off when she apologized for her sudden outburst.
"Does it look like I honestly care? We’re in a mental institution so there was bound to be some reason you were kicked into this place like me. Just …. There is no need to apologize, we’re all insane in our own way."
Karkat was never good at soothing a person so he just rambled a bit longer. He knew slightly of what could be happening in her head due to the voices he would hear in his nightmares that he avoids completely until his body finally gives out to need of sleep.Â
Roxy lightly slapped her forehead with the palm of her hand as she realized how stupid she must've seemed saying that. She quickly laughed at herself, and then pulled her expression back into a frown.
"Oh, yeah, well, duh! How didn't I think of that? Wow, clearly you are speaking to the worlds most intelligent girl right now, heh." She giggled as she mocked herself.
Sighing quietly, she trekked onwards as she tried to find somewhere interesting to go to in the large building. Of course, there were a few places that might be interesting to other people, but didn't spark Roxy's interest in the slightest.
She flicked her head to make sure that Karkat was even still here, because leaving him behind would be a rather idiotic thing to do. She also knew that she had a terrible habit of repeating herself, resulting in her sometimes doing the same thing over and over again.
"The complete lack of stimulation is giving me a migraine… has everyone in this hospital suddenly disappeared off the face of the Earth?"
"Tch, I really doubt it. More like, forgotten how to speak, or somethin' like that."
ok im back from my weird hiatus thing
i cant type today
A simple shrug of his shoulders was his response. He didn’t give a shit if other people thought his self-inflicted abuse was wrong or somehow in their minds untrue. As long as he avoided the subject in public, then he could continue his shitatistic life.
"Same here. I’m still getting used to this shitty place too so I thought walking around would help me familiarize everything."
Karkat looked at Roxy a bit more closely now and didn’t really get a hostile vibe for once like everybody else he encountered through the halls from mere bumps of the shoulder. It took him a moment before he swallowed his cowardiness and poise himself better to say:
"Wanna walk with me and show me around this god forsaken place?"
Her expression lit up at his question, and she quickly nodded. "Sure!" A humongous grin on her face, she reached for his arm, in order to drag him along with her.
Roxy began to run into the next hallway. Everything looked the same, just like it always did. All the doors looked identical, all the windows looked identical, it all had a rather creepy effect. She turned back to look back at Karkat, her eyes a tired mess.Â
"Are ya gonna be able to keep up?" She jokingly asked.
A quiet, shady voice began to whisper something to the blonde. She knew exactly who it was, and she was infuriated by it's appearance. It was none other than one of the dastardly voices. Her expression tightened, and she wanted to kick, scratch, punch. But, she knew she might scare Karkat if she did that, even if it seemed to be impossible to scare him. Oh well, it's not like she knows everything about everyone, so maybe there was a way.Â
She chose to violently curse out the voice, instead of doing anything that could possibly harm someone.
"Oh, uh, sorry about that. Just another damn voice in my head."
A single eyebrow quirked up at the girl’s response. Roxy was an odd one, that’s for sure. Then again, he was in a mental institution so there are bound to be even weirder and unstable people than her. She didn’t seem so bad or insane, so Karkat thought it wouldn’t be so bad to at least associate with someone within the FELT.
He gingerly took her hand and gave a very weak shake not wanting to have much physical interaction as possible. “Yea, that’s me. I’m surprised you know my name. Didn’t think word traveled fast in this place about a piece of shit like me."
Wow, he couldn’t go for one moment without trashing himself. He lightly shook his sleep addled mind to force his mind to waken more to stay away from even his day dreams to hopefully stop his self-hatred.
"But yea, nice to meet you too. So what brings you out on this gloomy night besides the ‘sleeping issues’? Bored as fuck like me?"
"Oh, word about everyone eventually gets down to me, sooner or later." She paused to flash a grin. "Hey, don't say that about yourself! I may hear voices but I know for a face that you aren't a piece of shit!" Her expression switched to a more defensive look.
Roxy scratched her head, trying to think of a reason of why she was out in the halls on such an odd and dark night. No reasons particularly struck her interest, mainly because they all seemed the same. They were all the same ''I'm looking for something." or "Do I have to give you a reason for why I'm out here?". However, she didn't want to lie, and she didn't want to even think about trying to anger Karkat.
"Eh, yeah, basically. Nothing in my room was that exciting, so I decided to take a stroll."
Yawning loudly, Roxy exited her room as she desperately sought something to do. She knew she hadn’t really… ‘befriended’ anyone at the institute, but it was still worth trying to find someone. She lazily rubbed an eye, not wanting to let fatigue take over her. Her hair was messy, and clearly very knotted. She was rather unsure of why she was so tired, seeing as it wasn’t even close to nightfall.
Her expression lit up as she noticed another figure standing somewhat close to her. Her eyes were droopy, thus causing her to be unable to detect the color of the figure’s bracelet. Still, she smiled and waved to them.
"Oh, hey. I didn’t expect to see someone else out here at this hour."
Walking around the institute wasn’t much fun, but then again, it was better than sleeping for Karkat. He was still pretty new to the whole institution so walking aimlessly at least helped me get used to the maze-like walls.Â
Mindlessly, Karkat scratched lightly at his arm at his new scabbed over wounds. His nails dug a little deeper when he heard a new voice behind him. It took a moment before he settled from the slight jump scare and saw the girl that stood before him.
Messy, tangled blonde hair was the first thing he noticed along with slight dark rings under her eyes. To be honest, she looked far better than Karkat looked with his constant bed head and black rings that could have mistakened to be raccoon eyes.
A small sarcastic laugh escaped him as he responded. “Tends to happen when someone refuses to sleep completely."
"Oh, you're having sleeping issues too? That's cool. Well, uh, not cool, but, um, interesting. Yeah! That's interesting." She awkwardly looked around, wondering how and why she ended up saying that.
"So.. you're Karkat, right? Yeah, I'm Roxy. I don't recall us meeting, so, it's nice to meet you." She extended her arm, offering a hand to shake.
The blonde was unsure of how to feel about meeting someone like Karkat on a night like this one, but she was enjoying meeting him none the less.
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed how tired he looked. There were obvious black rings under his eyes, as opposed to her slightly obvious rings. Yeah, real big difference there.Â
Yawning loudly, Roxy exited her room as she desperately sought something to do. She knew she hadn't really... 'befriended' anyone at the institute, but it was still worth trying to find someone.
