Eric, by no means, was a reporter. He’d be terrible at it. Though he was often subjected to investigative work. He’d often take part in projects that would reveal certain truths, but at the end of the day, he was a copy editor. He edited formatting, corrected spelling errors, provided structures for grammar, and made sure any articles that left his desk were perfect for readers.But if he could bend power for justice, perhaps he could be one of those heroes he so admired? It was a naive notion, but aspiring to promote positivity was better than hating himself.
Shaking Ender’s hand, he took in the sight of the other, not inherently noting any similarities to their mutual friend, Ghoul, but the mind worked in other ways. “ You look just like him- I hope that’s not rude to say. ” He took a long pause before trying to salvage the momentary awkward bluntness in his words, “ I spent a fair bit of time researching the archives of our previous mayor. I mean, you resemble him in a lot of ways. ” The corner of his mouth twitched into a smile,
“ Please take a seat. Would you like any coffee? Tea? Water? I could get the secretary to bring some. ”
“Not rude at all,” Ender reassured with a gentle smile as they shook hands. “And I actually get that a lot when it comes to resembling my dad,” he continued with a gentle smile. Plenty of people had told him that he looked a whole lot like his father in the past. And he couldn’t deny that he had plenty of similarity to the late mayor either. At the very least, he was just thankful that Eric didn’t seem to be picking up on any resemblance between himself and Ghoul. ‘Thank god for domino masks and super suits,’ he couldn’t help thinking to himself as he took a seat across from Eric and released a breath he didn’t know he’d been holding, just like the cliche stated.
“Thank you very much and I’m alright, but thanks again for asking,” he responded as his smile morphed into a more polite one. Fear at being discovered right off the bat slowly dissipated towards the back of his mind as he continued, “Maybe later on though, as long as it’s not too much trouble and the offer still stands? If you’re in the mood however, I’m ready to get right down to business.”

Robin flops on the seat next to the other, his fingers anxiously fiddling with something hidden between his hands and he bites his lower lip nervously, dying to tell someone about this so they could tell him he was just seeing things, that it was still part of the trauma, that this wasn’t real.
“…can you keep a secret?”
“Can I keep a secret?” Ender questioned as he glanced up from his phone. He looked over at Robin when he noticed the other had joined him on the couch. It had been a lazy day for the most part at the Scott household, just spent entertaining family and friends while rain poured down outside. So, it made sense that his first instinct would be thinking that the secret was something relatively small before memories came flooding back. All the same, he gave a tiny nod as his signal to go on ahead. “You know me. I’m the master secret keeper.”

Ender Scott was a surprisingly easy man to contact. The modulated voice over the phone was enough to put the fears in meeting another phony to ease. Eric was searching for the truth. He’d done his homework spent a grueling couple of work nights in the newspaper sections of the library. He was determined to help the Scotts, rebuild the tarnished reputations of mutants and of course, and meet the admirable friend of Ghoul who’d saved him. The newly refurbished desk was nothing compared to the updated equipment the office had acquired, but that could and would be overshadowed by the piles of files and work upon the copy editor’s desk. He’d eventually get to those tasks…
He was torn away from the quick sip of his latte as eyes met the familiar stranger through a glass window pane in the door. A smile greeted the man, as he nodded for permission to enter, “ Ender Scott, it’s so great to finally meet you. ”
Eric allowed for the other to ground himself in a polished yet messy office that was so reflective of Eric’s entire essence. “ Though it feels as if we’ve already met. Doesn’t it? ”
Ender had known that he was gambling with fate when he so readily offered himself up while he’d been in the Ghoul gear. But as far as he knew, the only people who had made the connection were a select few people that he had informed. And he certainly intended to keep it that way. However that most certainly didn’t mean he couldn’t arrange this meeting and hopefully get his hopes on the right track. He took a deep breath as he navigated his way around while directions replayed themselves in the back of his mind then finally reached the door that Eric had mentioned over the phone. He’d started to knock on the door before he worried about the potential to make too much noise so he had instead waited for a nod that served as his signal to enter. Once he did, he held a hand out to Eric in greeting with a soft, friendly smile on his face. “Eric Kim, it’s a pleasure to finally meet you as well. And it sort of does, you’re right about that,” he responded in greeting. But at the same time, he could only hope that the puzzle pieces about his hero and civilian identities would be so easy to put together thanks to this time together.

“Thank you. Ah… For your work, I mean. It must help a lot of people.” Aaron gave a small smile. “Sorry if I seem very… strange or nervous. I, ah… I was actually kidnapped as a kid.” God, he really hated talking about this, but it felt safe enough. “So it’s a little hard to talk about these kind of things. But the police rescued me, so I’m very grateful.” He paused and then chuckled softly. “You must have some crazy and intense stories, though. It would be very hard to keep those to yourself and not share them with other people.”
Ender listened along in a polite manner before he responded, “It’s no sweat, I promise, no apologies required. And thank you very much for trusting me with this. Can’t even imagine in all honesty, but I can understand the gratitude.” He nodded in confirmation while he added, “Definitely difficult to keep them to myself. Although I’ve certainly had my moments where I revealed just a little bit too much information to family and friends. Other than that though, kinda like to think that I do an alright job at keeping my lips zipped. Years of practice and all.”

“ It’s just my luck isn’t it! “ Minjun exclaimed, as a tiny set of beady eyes glared down that sign. June didn’t understand such a rule. It wasn’t like the bottoms of their feet were dirty. Well… that probably wasn’t true, but still! “ You do? It would! “ They bounced on naked heels of their feet, giggling at the other’s words. “ I was thinking the same thing! Though, I didn’t forget my shoes. I just hate wearing them. They’re uncomfortable and my my toes itchy. “
Taking the packet, June smiled at it first, then flashed that smile up at the other, “ Thank you again! I really appreciate this. You’re quite the hero, you know! “
“If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times and that statement is people never fail to baffle me,” Ender responded while he gestured at the sign before he rolled his eyes at it and gave a sigh. He brightened up once again as he listened to what Minjun had to say then continued, “I can understand that. ‘Course I’m fine with shoes although I totally get the itchy toes thing too. But only sometimes. Sentiment still stands though.” He chuckled a few moments later, “Gonna quit while I’m ahead and before I start rambling.”
“Anytime, always happy to lend a hand,” Ender answered in a polite tone of voice. “And thank you very much for the compliment. Just doing what other people would hopefully do, you know? Help each other out.”

“ Hell-hello! ” Minjun stood at the entrance of the corner shop. They bounced on the tips of their bare toes as they peered at the other as they began to follow them on their way. “ Do you think you could help me out for a second? ” They were persistent. “ You see, I’m trying to buy a simple packet of headache medicine for my friend, but they won’t allow me to enter the building without shoes!! ” Despite their quick speech, they couldn’t however, keep the attention of that passerby. June couldn’t give up just yet. After a quick curse under their breath, they turned to their next victim. “ Hello, could you please help? ” Stopping the new person in their tracks, June held up their hands in protest, “ I promise I’m not begging for spare change, but could I perhaps borrow your shoes? ”
“Hello,” Ender greeted then gently arched his eyebrow when he heard the part about shoes. Eventually though, he glanced at the tiny sign in the windows that proclaimed an all too familiar statement. ‘No shirt, no shoes, no service.’ “Well, there’s a conundrum if I’ve ever seen one,” he remarked. “But I actually think I’ve got an unused packet or two somewhere in here if that would help too?” he offered while he started to slide his messenger bag around for ease of access. He ruffled through it as he continued, “I can understand refusing service for one reason or another, no shoes among them. But at the same time, maybe someone was in a hurry and forgot to put shoes on. Or it’s just boiling hot out so they’re going shirtless for just a little bit. Like you can still have a place of establishment while still understanding that sometimes people forget things or they don’t want to spontaneously combust.” Eventually, he produced a packet of headache medicine and held it out with a soft smile.
❛❛ 𝑒𝓇𝒾𝒸 & ghculishscn:
“And I don’t know if there are any mutants who manipulate emotions, but if there are any, then I can only hope they’re an ally of mine or have decided to remain neutral,” Ghoul remarked. Then he glanced over at Eric as the other male continued talking and nodded in agreement. “It could definitely go a seriously long way, what he’s hoping to achieve.”
Underneath the suit, Ender definitely wanted to move forward with all of these plans that he had. All of the hopes to continue his father’s work, but he knew that he had a long way to go. Especially right now since the status of this project was just a collection of ideas in the back of his mind. Ghoul took a few moments to consider Eric’s question before he finally nodded in agreement. “Feel free to leave everything in, except my friend’s identity, please. He’d rather surprise everyone with what he’s got up his sleeve.” He shifted just a hint so he could lower his voice to a whisper just as he noticed the nurse coming over to bring Eric back.
“But if you’re interested in looking for my friend and talking to him, you know the late Mayor Scott’s son?” It still hurt referring to his own father like that, but he did the best he could to shake it off. “Ender Scott is my friend’s name, he’s a detective here in Crystalline. Shouldn’t take too long to track him down, plus I think his personal phone number and email are on the station’s website.”
“ I’m certain most who read it will consider it an opinion piece. It’s unfortunately what I’ve been supervising lately. Newspaper subscriptions apparently only sell when you feed the masses gossip and garbage, “ He took in a slightly frustrated inhale merely thinking of the process. At his last job, he wasn’t used to so many interviews. He’d wished his role would return to actual editing, but the stories seemed endless in Crystalline City. “ But if I can do anything to spread more of the truth out there, I would be selfish not to do so. ” His eyes noticed the clipboard carrying physician as she made her way.
“ Ender Scott. ” the name rolled off the tongue easily for Eric to remember. He repeated the three syllables once more as he nodded into a set of preliminary questions as to why he were there in that hospital. The nurse had her comments, of course, and despite the sight before them, smiled. As he was motioned to follow her into a sectioned off station, he stopped for a moment to extend his hand to the other. A proper introduction was in order or perhaps a sign of gratitude. Nevertheless, Eric shook the hero’s hand as he spoke to what felt like the first friend he’d made in the city, “ Thanks again for saving me tonight. The city is lucky to have you. “

ENDER: Thank you and he was a cute baby.
ENDER: The best way I can put it is even on calm days where nothing much happens, parenthood is an adventure. But one that I wouldn't trade for the world.

Though Hoseok wanted to disagree, he knew very well that the other was right. People probably hardly cared if someone tripped and fell – though he was constantly paranoid about people looking at him, the truth was that everyone minded their own business. His therapist tried to reassure him of that every time; no one is going to remember you five minutes from now. Still, crowds made him nervous. Maybe it was some sick kind of god complex that made him believe that he was important enough to have everyone look at him, no matter how hard he tried to fade into the shadows. Was he egotistic to worry so much about people giving a shit about him? To assume they knew about his fucked up past, just by looking at him?
While he struggled to answer the question, he opted for a weak nod at the suggestion to go up to the cafe. Not that he expected it to be less horrible to be out in the open out there, it sounded like a good idea to at least be able to sit down. He felt really dizzy. “S-S-S-So-Sorry…” How many times had he apologized in the past few minutes? He felt like he’d lost count. Hoseok pulled his sleeve down further over his head so he could wipe it across his forehead, feeling the sweat clinging to his skin. “I– Um… ‘m not good with… with… crowds.”
“It’s alright,” Ender reassured with the same soft tone of voice. “I can move the crowds, keep them as far away from you as possible,” he continued. After all, what mattered the most to him in any situation was that whoever else would be alright. He motioned for Moon to stay behind him then slowly started to lead the way towards the cafe. “Just let me know if you want me to slow down, okay?” he questioned as he turned in order to walk backwards for a tiny stretch. “Or if you want to go somewhere else. I know the cafe is kind of far, kind of not.”
