grit  teeth  and  staggering  breath come  sharp,  a  voice  clear  as  day  --  a  mantra  :  you  weren’t built  for  this.  [...]  frantic  in  the  search to  shy  away  from  the  borders  that  stopped  them  before.  if  only  breaking  them  to  protect him.  protect  the  unit.  but  then,  in  the  end  it  was  always  their  mission.  their  purpose.

perhaps  they  were  programmed  too  well.  something they  wonder  about  often,  were  they  ever  really  deviant? broken  free  from  one  cage  just  to  be  thrown unto  another.  [  you  weren’t built  for  this.  you  weren’t built  to  want.  you  weren’t built  to  care  for  anyone else  ]  but  they  did  care  for  him  &  was  that  so  wrong?  to  want  something to  call  their  own,  an  act,  a  feeling?  how  much  was  real  &  how  much  was  counterfeit?

their voice  breaks,  breath wavers.  they  could  not  tell,  they  promised to  hold  their  tongue  on  it  no  matter  how  much  it  wounded  them.  coiled  them  up  inside. a  lie,  it  was  a  lie  every  time  they  saw  him  and  acted  as  if  they  did  not  know.  [  was  a  lie  still  abhorrent when  you  wish  to  protect someone?  was  it  selfish?  ]  they  didn’t know,  and  far  too  frightened to  find  out.

hope,  what  a  rarity  and  in  short  supply  these  days.  tensions  were  notably  high,  even  despite  the  years  it  took  to  get  here.  but  hope  was  the  only  thing  to  cling  to  now,  the  hope  that  it  wasn’t  all  for  naught  ---  and  it  couldn’t  be.  it  shouldn’t  be.  they  lived  so  close  to  the  borders  of  preconstructions,  the  variables  and  likelihood  of  failures,  the  success  rates  and  what-if’s.  

it  was  [...]  hard  to  let  go  of,  every  possible  preconstruction  meant  to  reassure  but  still  failing  in  its  task.  they  lived  so  close  to  those  percentages  they  had  forgotten  somewhere  about  the  rouge  variable  of  life  itself.  of  living,  aware,  sentient  beings.  never  could  understand  how  they  could  be  so  brave,  such  as  to  try  and  defy  fate  anyways.

GHOST  &  DELTARUNE  /  UNDERTALE  AU  NOTES.

after  escaping  THE  NOTHINGNESS  with  PABLO,  GHOST  found  themselves in  a  very  different  sort  of  voided nothing.  this  area  was  far  different  than  the  one  they  knew.  though  upon  their  discovery by  GASTER  they  were  frightened off  and  in  a  panic, threw  themselves  into  the  light.

without  a  viable host  or  puppet to  connect  with,  they  appear as  a  soul.  however,  their  form  is  visible  at  some  key  times  when  existence  strains to  accommodate  them.  a  puppeteer without  a  puppet is  a  dangerous thing.  though  their  goal  to  be  free  of  such  a  title  is  a  fruitless one.

through  a  bond  in  appropriating their  soul  with  another’s  form  or  soul,  the  outcome of  their  feelings towards  such  a  connection  can  be  vastly different.  akin  to  a  specter, they  can  interact with  things  in  the  environment seemingly  caused  by  nothing.  they  can  see  and  hear  everything  but  often  choose to  be  unseen and  remain  silent. however,  driven  by  compassion,  their  skittish  nature is  easily  dropped in  favor  of  assisting  someone they  think  may  be  in  pain  or  need  ---  regardless  of  authenticity  or  their  own  wellbeing.  

being  that  they  were  trapped in  the  ether  for  what  felt  like  eons,  only  to  be  thrown  from  world  to  world,  their  knowledge  of  new  ones  like  the  “light  world”  and  “dark  worlds”  are  incredibly  limited. behavior  and  authenticity is  also  something they  struggle  to  gauge,  given  how  isolated they  were  and  how  new  they  are  to  interactions ---  as  well  as  the  last  person they  trusted  completely lying  to  them  --  it’s  difficult  for  them  to  trust  and  understand  when  someone  is  being  genuine or  not.

much  to  their  chagrin,  GHOST’s  soul  can  be  appropriated  by  monsters  and  humans  alike! though  it  forms  and  bonds  to  the  host’s  own  in  an  odd  way.  rather  than  being  stored within  the  original soul,  it’s  mirrored upside-down  to  make  an  odd  sort  of  “X”  it’s  only  when  someone  connects to  the  puppeteer that  they  can  see  GHOST  fully,  feel  what  they  feel,  gain  the  power  of  their  soul,  and  so  on.

as  one  would  expect,  the  more  frightened and  emotional  they  get,  the  more  incoherent, glitchy  and  broken down  their  form  and  voice  gets.  and  as  a  result,  so  too  the  world  surrounding them.

however, it  should  be  noted  that  GHOST  can  fight  against the  will  of  the  one  who  they’re bonded  with  on  some  level. much  like  the  souls  fought back  against  Flowey. and,  if  given  the  opportunity to  connect  to  another  “puppet” they  can  accept or  deny  if  they  so  choose.  however, without  the  offer, it  is  nearly impossible  to  snap  the  connection as  it’s  incredibly painful  for  both  GHOST,  and  the  one  they’re  bound  to.

“ THE  PUPPETEER ”  TITLE .

the  placement  and  title  of  PUPETEER  that  GHOST  is  given  and  referred  to  as  very  very  early  within  OFF  is  not  one  they  accept  at  all.  they  find  discomfort within  them  at  the  idea  of  being  both  associated with  THE  BATTER, but  also  with  the  idea  that  they  were  made  to  simply manipulate  and  pull  another’s  strings. a  specter  and  watcher.  UNSEEN.  the  subject  being  a  sore  of  of  course,  they  hesitate  to  lend  their  strength  to  any  other  being  ---  especially  ones  attempting  to  appropriate  their  essence  for  their  own  means.  

it  should  of  course  be  noted  that  GHOST  is  a  pacifist. however,  this  does  not  mean  they  aren’t strong  or  capable of  defending  themselves when  necessary.  quite  the  contrary, when  one  is  bound  with  them  they  share  all  of  their  power  with  them  completely unintentionally.  certainly  ensuring that  any  binding and  communion  with  them  is  something  fulfilling and  near  dangerous.
