Garrett wasn’t too sure if he believed her, his nocturnal schedule wasn’t really that fun to be synced up to. But he wouldn’t push, even if he started to feel even worse. This couldn’t have waited until tomorrow anyway, it was important and he wanted both the answers and reconciliation he deserved. That wasn’t asking for too much, right? The brunet seemed surprised by how Mickey associated the two, and half a chortle was his reply. He still had it from back in high school, except he wasn’t as horny as he was back then. He matured, but not as much as he should have. Instead of laughing at the mention of boobs, he was infatuated with them. So he thought he had a pretty good idea of what Mickey meant. “Nope, I got you one hundred percent. I was the same exact way, minus the bitch part.”
He’d wait then, patience was something he’d just have to learn. Garrett was useless in this field and Heath couldn’t do much as a brand spanking new man of the law. He had connections too, but he really needed a man on the inside to help. The werewolf’s lips curled into a frown, wishing that he didn’t have the reminder. Sometimes he liked to imagine he was just stuck eternally in a nightmare, but he knew that wasn’t the case.
“Dog?” He asked, taking a moment to register what she said. “Oh, that’s me. My German Shepherd,” he explained, turning around to find her. She was curled into herself on the sofa, snoring softly as she slept. Unlike her owner, Daisy liked to sleep at night and be up in the day. She’d bite a chunk of his arm out before she adjusted to his schedule.
Mickey smiled and pulled her van door open to stretch her legs out and look out over the edge of the overpass she had parked on. The sun was beginning to rise and everything was in the twilight, locked in some weird dimension of night and dawn, stars and sunlight. It was breathtaking. She gave a slight shiver at the cool morning breeze and rubbed at her eyes.
“Bet you were the talk of the school, looker like you. Probably pretty popular with the ladies huh? Chasing skirts into the girl’s bathroom for a quick makeout or cigarette in the boy’s bathroom before class,” she teased with a final yawn. Mickey looked out over the skyline and sighed softly. Mickey liked mornings she was up in time for the sunrise, she liked breathing in the first winds of the day and catching the first figments of daylight. It was the simple things that kept her going anymore. She rarely slept thanks to the nightmares of the dead and when she did sleep it was for short spurts so she cherished the time she was given to just- be her. Be here. Be alive.
“Yeah dog, every time your ma pops up to scare the shit outta me there’s a smell of a dog,” Mickey said before Garrett explained. She smiled and looked out over the overpass. “You run?” she asked suddenly. “Meet me at the IHOP on Archway and Moss, we’ll have breakfast, talk and then you and your furry friend can join me for a jog. How’s that sound? Breakfast on me, but that ain’t me askin you out so nothin funny. This is strictly business, homes,” she joked in a stern tone but a smile on her lips as she awaited his answer.
