Whoa! Hey! What's your problem?
Oh, wow!
Well, yeah. It’s not like it’s some weird Shakespeare kind of word.
It's just not a word you hear a lot out of a normal person.
Wait what?
Sorry. I wasn’t really listening.
I asked if you could move. You're blocking my shot.
Well it isn’t like there is really good timing when you are dead.
I guess that's true. So you've really never been kissed before? That's lame. How old are you?
I think a lot. I’m not clueless I’m just thinking about things…a lot of things, and then I say them out loud. Sorry if you think they are stupid or whatever.
I think you just have bad timing.
True…but…I dunno kid. Do you have any big ideas on what to do?
I guess not . . .
God aren’t you a buzz kill. You know a little bit of joy in your life wouldn’t kill you.
It's hard to feel joy when people are getting murdered.
If you don’t get me then stop talking to me. I’m not clueless okay!
Sorry, you just say such ridiculous things . . . it's hard to ignore.
But it is my favorite holiday. I wanna dress up like a kitty!
With all the curfews going on, I doubt we'll even get to celebrate it.
..never mind. Forget I said anything.
I just don't get you. Are you not paying attention on purpose or are you really that clueless?
Oh, wow!
This is the cutest little cafe I’ve ever been in. It’s so quaint!
People really use the word "quaint" still?
Can I ask you something…
What does kissing someone feel like? I never got to do that before I died. I don’t think I want to now…but I’m curious.
People are dying and you're asking about kisses?
It is almost September, which means it is close to October which means HALLOWEEN!
This place is creepy enough without throwing Halloween into the mix.
Waking Nightmares || Alex + Lady
Lady had decided to head out around the town and collect some footage, the camera she borrowed was strapped to her shoulder. She was just wandering when she spotted the boy laying in the park. Was he asleep? She was confused, she walked a little closer. He was asleep, but it did not look restful or peaceful in the least.
"Hey," she said with no response.
She stepped a little closer to him. Which was a bad move, because he jolted up and screamed. Her blue eyes went wide as she jumped back. She stayed where she was as she looked at him with care. Her eyebrows knitted together. He said he was fine but the expression on his face said otherwise.
Since Lady’s own death she had panic attacks, if she was left alone too long, which was often. There would be a sharp tightness in her chest, and though breathing didn’t matter to a deadperson, it would become short and shallow. Things would get hazy, foggy, she worried sometimes she’d just vanish into thin air. So although her and Alex didn’t really get along. She sympathized with his current state.
"Yeah," she nodded and looked down. Her voice was calm and gentle. "You’re fine…" she glanced around the park and then back at him. Closing one of her eyes to adjust to the sun. "Do you like napping in the park or something?"
It took a moment for Alex to recognize her, but when he did, he narrowed his eyes some. It was that peppy girl. The one who always seemed happy for some reason. He didn't understand her, and as such he tended to avoid her. Now it looked like he wouldn't be able to, though. He brushed off his shirt and shook his head.
"I wasn't napping," he said, looking around at the park. He honestly had no idea how he'd gotten there. Had he been sleepwalking? Or just in a trance? Most of his daymares happened in the safety of his own apartment. He didn't like that he'd been seen by who knows how many people in this state.
"Anyway, what are you doing here?" he asked, crossing his arms over his chest tightly and frowning at her.
Waking Nightmares || Alex + ?
"Hey Alex! Want to play some baseball?"
Funny how one simple sentence could ruin someone's whole life. At the time it had seemed so innocent, so innocuous. Just a simple game of baseball. And Ava had been fine. She was playing on the swings, happy as could be. Alex figured he'd still be able to keep an eye on her. So he told her he was going to play with his friends and not to wander off. She'd looked at him with those big blue eyes and given him a gap-toothed smile.
"Okay, Awex!"
Why had he believed her? She'd only been five. Five years old. Five-year-olds should never be trusted to listen to what you tell them, even if they agree to it. But he was fourteen and anxious to spend some time with his friends. He was surprised they even wanted him to play, considering all the times he'd had to blow them off.
He'd done his best to keep an eye on Ava. Every once in a while he'd glance over and see her playing happily on the playground, her red jacket flapping in the wind. She was happy. She was fine.
But then there was a triple play. It was a close one, but when he'd stopped the runner, everyone had gone wild. It was an amazing play, and his friends crowded around him, patting him on the back. He'd been grinning, happy for some recognition and praise. But then when his friends dispersed to continue the game, he'd glanced over at the playground.
And Ava was gone.
------------
"NO!"
Alex jolted awake, breathing heavily even though he didn't need to breathe. He was standing in the middle of the park. How had he ended up there? He felt dazed and confused, and he lifted a hand to his forehead, his head pounding. He'd had nightmares before, but it'd been a long time since he'd had one in the middle of the day. And it'd been a while since he'd ended up somewhere strange as well.
"Shit," he muttered, looking around with a faint frown, hoping no one had seen him or heard him cry out. There were tears on his face too, which he quickly wiped away. Someone had seen him though, and they were approaching with a concerned look.
"I'm fine," he told them quickly. "I'm fine."
This town is so interesting.
I guess so. I mean, girls are usually the ones that read my writing but I don’t judge if guys want to as well.
I don't think any guys would want to.
Thanks. That’s sweet, I guess.
You should probably dry off or something though . . . I mean, it's pretty warm out but you don't want to walk around all soaked. People might stare.
