If you had only one day left in existence, what would you do in that last day?
I'd want to spend it with my daddy. I want to wake up and see him sitting at the edge of my bed with a bag from Lola's Bakery, that was always our favorite. He'd get a almond croissant for me and a coffee cake for himself. Then we'd go for a walk someplace, he'd take me to a bookstore where we'd hunt down a copy of his earlier novel, he'd sign it and put it back on the shelf.
Then we'd go see a movie, an old one, at the movie theater we loved. It only had three theaters and one of them was always showing and Audrey Hepburn movie, that is the one we would watch. I don't care which movie it is. Just as long as the theater is pretty empty. We'd share popcorn. Which he would end up eating most off.
Then we would go home. He'd pour himself a glass off wine and make me read poetry too him. He never liked when I read Sylvia Plath...he said it gave him nightmares. But he liked Poe, which I always thought was strange. Poe gave me nightmares, but I'd read it for him anyways. I'd read till late at night when he was on his third glass of wine. I'd tell him to go to sleep but he wouldn't. So I'd keep reading until he was fast asleep.
I'd take his glass. Cover him with a blanket and tell him I loved him.
I think that is what I'd want.
