It's always "hail Mary, full of Grace" and never "Eva, the first woman, whose sins cast humanity away from Eden (but humanity found it's place out there)".
Anyway, Eva Stratt, you did everything correctly, you made the wrong choice, humanity is alive because of your determination, the most woman ever. They coul never make me pin your morals down as 'good' or 'bad'.

Story-driven roguelike where you actually resolve the central problem with no contrived shooting-our-own-themes-in-the-foot excuse for why you just keep iterating on it forever after the credits roll, and any runs after that are framed as PTSD dreams about all the shit the protagonist went through.
Just imagine all the fucked up postgame difficulty modifiers you could easily justify in this framing. Nightmare mode mod where all the trash mobs have the face of your dad.

there's a strange nostalgia I have revisiting webcomics I grew up with in the mid 2000s. I still recognize how the art styles drew me in, but at the same time now I can see how flawed these webcomics were as comics. A lot of these artists were self taught after all, and while some of them had beautiful styles, they sorely lacked the fundamentals in comics language. The layouts are kind of nonsensical because I can clock the artist being inspired by a mix of western comics and manga, the lettering is horrendous, and because perspective tools and 3d assets weren't a thing back then- the backgrounds were pretty wacky. But there's a charm in seeing these artists try anyway, very passionately so, in a medium that is notoriously labor intensive.
I don't really get that feeling now with modern webcomics and it's not to say they're all bad- there's still great inventive stuff especially now that being a comic artist is more accessible than ever. But with publishers swooping in to what was once the wild west of comics comes a sad standardization to the space. Especially on webtoons, a lot of the comics look almost identical to each other. The layouts aren't inventive, the backgrounds and props look like asset dumps, and even the characters look generic. What was once a playground for artists to take their time with their passion projects is now an algorithmitized business. And I'm sure there was a good bit of that back then too, but not as much as it is now.
great work everyone hit the bathhouse
this is gonna be me being salty and oddly specific more than anything ig but i feel like as far as fandom analysis/theorizing goes ive seen a weird rise in this idea that the proper way to analyze a story is that you should exclusively bank on a twist that makes everything presented in the story untrue. and that you should do so by trying to find secret "true" readings of parts of the text that are very clearly established. and im like........... do you actually know how to do this analyzing thing or do you just like to point at things and yell "BUT WHAT IF THIS WAS REALLY THAT ?" and look around for approval
like yes plot twists and subversion of the status quo and recontextualization of past story events can be done well (incredibly well in fact) but just like EVERY OTHER DEVICE USED IN STORYTELLING they must fit! a plot twist has to fit! and to do that it has to be satisfying!! it has to serve well to the story's themes and setting and characters and overall message and you may realize thats also what everything else in the story has to do as well!!!! plot twists are intended to be surprising yes but they still slot into the story in a satisfying way that (at the very base level) makes sense!! the goal of storytelling is not exclusively to subvert just for the sake of subversion!!!! and mind you its also true a lot of the time that if you can successfully make guesses on what could happen next in a storyline based on evidence and clues placed in the text that's INTENTIONAL AND GOOD thats called FORESHADOWING!!
(on that note, good plot twists DO have clues laid out for them!!! if you can't reread it and go "it was surprising when it came to fruition but looking back at the rest of the story you can see evidence of the gradual buildup to this conclusion whether subtle or explicit" its most likely really not all that good of a twist at all its kinda just throwing some bullshit in there for the sake of bullshit!!!!)
if your main strategy of analyzing a text is exclusively that you think it's goal is to do a sudden shocking 180° on its established message with no rhyme or reason then whats the point? why even engage with/analyze what the base text IS telling you if the only thing it leaves you with is “THEORY: WHAT IF SUDDENLY THE POINT OF THE TEXT WERENT ACTUALLY THE POINT OF THE TEXT AND THE REAL POINT WAS ACTUALLY THIS OTHER PREVIOUSLY IRRELEVANT SECRET FACTOR IN THAT ONE SCENE THAT WASNT MENTIONED BEFORE NOW” like theres a ton of low budget movie sequels with that sort of premise and they are usually Bad theres a reason why theres "suddenly palpatine returned" memes and why people make fun of that style of sudden out-of-nowhere plot twisting just for the sake of plot twisting (or in the case of the palpatine one, wringing as much money out of a franchise as possible because Just Shoehorning New Shit into the series with little regard for its existing material/themes is a great way to do it) and its because its Bad it Doesnt Work Well in practice
but i stay silly! *←said in the most world-weary voice you ever did hear*
“but I stay silly!”
Reblog you stay silly
on it boss
If you are feeling good about yourself or situation and then your mood suddenly shifts leaving you feeling insecure, unsure, etc. try to remind yourself that nothing has truly changed but your perception. Your cute outfit did not suddenly become horrid. Your delicious meal did not tranform into a terrible one. Your peers perception of you has not radically transformed over a social misstep. Everything we experience is put through it through our mental filter, and that can convince us that everyone else sees us with the judgement we have for ourselves. Be kind to yourself.
Finding out AI companies are chewing through - literally, they’re pulping and burning them as they go - millions of books often including 1/1s and old texts that cannot be reprinted
Meanwhile there’s always some dipshit telling me AI is the future and we’ve got to just let companies erase human history and literature so they can train their abomination machines to pretend to think like people because a judge said it’s fine
AI companies are buying and scanning printed books for training data, raising copyright and cultural preservation concerns as rare volumes a
