really galling amount of people misinterpreting this post so i'd like to clarify. i'm saying that when discussions about patriarchal beauty standards and the way women are heavily shamed and coerced into eschewing their own natural state of being (hairy) are occurring, it is unhelpful (AT BEST) to interrupt and say that the reason YOU remove the hair from your body is because of sensory issues. that's not what we're talking about. stop asking for validation for doing something that society at large wants you to do. stop derailing the conversation because you feel uncomfortable about being made aware that you, for whatever reason it is, adhere to harmful, unfair and ridiculous beauty standards. you're stepping into the middle of an important conversation that needs to be had and making it all about you. shut the fuck up forever.

also quite frankly i think a lot less people would experience sensory issues if they let their hair grow out so that it isn't bristly and rough and irritating. and i cannot help but wonder why these sensory issues aren't as predominant in men. maybe you're uncomfortable with the hair on your body because you've been taught to be uncomfortable with it. just a thought.

I feel like people are forgetting that a very large part of media literacy isn’t just the ability to analyze a piece of media by itself, but the ability to analyze it meaningfully in the context of the media landscape of which it was published.

Irisa Lavellan’s in game romance is Josephine, because she’s a lesbian and deserves a soft life with a loving intelligent girlfriend.

But the ‘romance’ (if you can call it that) that I think about her in the most is a Cullen romance because it’s so deeply fucked up for both of them. She hates his guts. He sees her hatred within their relationship as atonement for his treatment towards mages (even though he changes absolutely nothing else about himself). He’s a constant reminder of her abuse and torment and she knows that even if he sympathizes now he explicitly saw her suffering as a necessary evil in the past, and that he explicitly regarded her as less than a person. They have absolutely awful sex.

Her canon romance is her tranquil ex-girlfriend who she makes untranquil immediately because she doesn’t respect Cassandra’s authority whatsoever and resents Cassandra for wanting to keep the tranquility cure to herself. And there’s angst in a healing arc because Irisa has changed a lot as a person since her girlfriend was made tranquil, and she doesn’t know if she’d still love her as she is now. But it turns out her girlfriend has changed a lot too because of the trauma of the past 6 years hitting her all at once. And it turns out that they’re two emotionally scarred and broken women slowly trying to fix each other in the vague image of the last time either of them were happy.

So Irisa was made initially as my Inquisior but she also fits pretty neatly into a companion role. Because I don’t feel like Inquisition has a mage companion that can properly clash with. Dorian and Solas both have no first hand experience with a southern circle, so any criticisms they have of it can be easily crushed aside by Vivienne as “you don’t even know what you’re talking about”

Meanwhile Irisa has so much experience with southern circles.

Idk I think it would be like enrichment for them to argue. Even though neither are willing to engage in a good faith conversation about it, and Irisa is very easily coaxed into violence.

Okay it probably wouldn’t be good for them but I want to see it anyways.
