A piece for NME on Fierce Panda’s 20th anniversary. Lovely people one and all, really enjoyed writing and researching this.
I haven't posted anything since January, 'cos I'm a busy fool. This Mr Welch chap however, he's just busy.

Oh My God! It's Pandamonium Week!
So, no sleep 'til Buffalo Bar! As I believe the Beach Boys once said.
Anyways, El Born are heading-up tonight's bill and they deliver great swathes of Americana-tinged indie-rock, as demonstrated thusly:
Tonight, pandamonium also plays host to The Traps, the panoramic balladry of Longfellow, and Feldpsar - whose alt-folk/Americana-songwriting powers continue to grow and astound.
Incredibly, both Longfellow and Feldspar have singles due out via Label Fandango / fierce panda in the coming weeks.
Longfellow will be unleashing the disarming pop ode, 'Siamese Lover' on January 27 - go on, have a listen:
While Feldspar will be releasing the mighty 'Young and Invincible' on 24 Feb. We don't have the finished vid, just yet, so close your eyes, breathe deeply, and savour them performing 'The Flat and Paper Sky' from last year's Hoxton Underbelly show:
A great start to the year, me thinks...
Happy New Year, folks!
It's gunner be a good day! ;)
Seriously! Red vinyl truly houses the devil's music.

But Jack did draw some scary sharks.
Our maiden metal detecting adventure proved unsuccessful...
A day at the beach...
Yo-Yo's first Christmas tree!
So, let's have some fun, BABY GODZILLA!
Yay! GIANT HAYSTACKS turned 2 today!
Right, So This Is A Pretty Good Start...
In amongst my search for an indie act to headline a show in London on 12th Feb, I uncovered this little gem by Chicago, IL outfit Impulsive Hearts. It's not 100% apparent whether this project is a solo endeavor supported by friends, or a fully-fledged band, but this track, 'Everything/Everyone', is certainly promising:
And continuing, precariously, along the "It's Friday night, let-your-hair-down" theme, this track from Birmingham producer/remixer, Arc Vel features the beutiful and floaty vice of Lisa Waldron. It's called 'Little Bird':
Right, I should have been sending emails to prospective bands instead of writing this, TTFN.
Absense Makes The Band Backlog Grow... And Grow.
Right, I am playing catch-up here guys.
Could it be that I have been pawing over so many great bands that I have not had time to share them? "No way?" you say. "Way!" I say.
First up is Human Hair who have one foot in Notts (knots?) and t'other in Ye Olde London. The five-piece have been posting many-a EP on to Soundcloud this past 3 months or so. Here is their 'Modern Man' offering:
I'm not normally one for soulful indie, but this Glasgow ensemble, Post, have me intrigued. They play some sweet garage pop and the first 2 or 3 tracks of this album make it feel like the 80's again, and then the rest is a bit of a journey between the 90's and the 60's. Mind-bending. I think ' New Play Thing' is my favourite.

The daftest song of (at least) the past week must certainly go to 'Post-Disney-Harcore-Pop' moshers, Dinosaurs Are Shit Dragons from Blackpool, and their off-kilter ramblings, snappily entitled, 'John Craven Peers Through My Window At Night':
Single Number One by Dinosaurs Are Shit Dragons
Happy Friday Peeps!
Right, short and sweet today my little cherubs.
Today, I shall bestow upon you, this Brighton duo whom I hope to book a show with soon, called IYES, and their XX-tinged track, 'Lighthouse':
Hope this gives you that Friday feeling me lovelies!
(Also - I am off to the final leg of fierce panda's pandamonium tonight - Grass House and Natasha Haws are definitely worth checking out... so, check. it. out.

Over and out - have a great weekend!
It's Been A Long, Long Day, But Here, Listen To Some Bands!
After working way too hard yesterday (i.e. finding myself ensconced in a 'meeting' down the pub between the hours of 2pm and 7.15, before returning to the office, po-go-ing to Idlewild whilst sending emails, before heading to Hoxton Bar & Kitchen and then on to the Bull & Gate), today has turned out to be a bit of a long one.
So before I clock off for yet more Bull & Gate-shaped frolics, this time with our friends at Two-Tap PR and Crushed Beaks for the penultimate dose of this year's 'fierce panda's pandamonium', I think I should share with you Southampton's Spectral Park, and their tune, 'Pale Glistens':
Spectral Park embark on a European Tour supporting Unknown Mortal Orchestra in Feb - what a lark!
Also, this bunch from Seattle, know as The Blakes, might be worth keeping an eye on, too. Here is their latest vid, 'Narwhal', but be warned, this content is not for those who may be offended by ladies' bums:
Onward!
A New Year, A New... Band? Oh, Hang On....
How do web-watchers?
I took a mosie on down to the Bull & Gate before Christmas (remember Christmas, *sigh* well, I remember it graphically, as I had the Norovirus on Christmas Day - sad times) and I was rather surprised by how good this lot were live. So, I thought that just to show them how much I care, I would share it with some folks who may not have seen it yet. So here is Die Mason Die's video for 'Lost':
Furthermore, you might want to check out 'Gerald' on their flakebook
And as a Brucie Bonus, if you fancy something with a little more muscle, then check out this London 3-piece, The Males and their track, 'Ghost Notes':
Future of The Stone Age, anyone? \m/
Oh, and before I forget, it's the start of fierce panda's pandamonium '13 shows at the Bull & Gate TONIGHT. We host FREEZE THE ATLANTIC, HOLD YOUR HORSES and RADIO ALCATRAZ. Come on down!
Rawk!
