so i did some thinking. i wanted to know what the azran language looks like for silly brain reasons. enjoy as i embody randall ascot lollll

so i always assumed that they used kinda boxy characters bc i vaguely remember the azran stuff looking like that. if we look at the norwell wall we would think that’s confirmed.
HOWEVER as we know this is actually a map, not the writing. so what does their writing look like? well if we look at scenes from azran legacy we get this:
it looks like the writing comes in the form of lines. now logically this is just how the artists portrayed the language so they didn’t have to write out a bunch of runes. but wouldn’t it be interesting for their written language to ACTUALLY be lines? looking at the image with aurora, there are clear scribbles, which, in a specific pattern, could convey information.
there also seem to be a couple rune-like letters, though. im gonna theorize that these are more pictorial, and serve as context for images. instead of them being words like the lines, they modify images to make their meaning more clear. this would explain why you only see them next to pictures or on the norwell wall (where they could represent different landmarks or biomes and such). they wouldn’t be captions exactly—there are bits of line text that seem to serve that purpose.
they could also be a different iteration of the written language before it evolved, but going from characters like what we use today into lines that inscribe information in a completely different manner seems a little far-fetched. of course, we don’t know (or i don’t think we know, i could be forgetting) how long the azran civilization was around, so maybe that’s could happen. even so, the runes appear in the same place as the lines, so it wouldn’t make sense for one to evolve from the other. logically they must’ve been used at the same time.
ALSO going by my lines theory, maybe that’s how randall figured out the norwell wall was a scrambled map. after studying the ancient histories book he realized the runes don’t really follow the rules of a normal written language and also those scribbly lines look to be their actual language? i feel like randall’s specialty in archaeology had he gone to university and actually studied it would have been the linguistics lol
