“Losing your footing? It really has been too long,” Georgette picked fun at Gideon as she seamlessly climbed out her window, holding his hand firmly. She had to laugh at how he could barely stand on the shingles. “How am I so flawless?” she joked, walking firmly where it should have been slippery.
“Same spot.” Gideon turned around and sent for a blanket from his home instead of her getting one from hers which was, obviously, much closer. “You still have this old thing?” Not that Georgette had anything new. She wouldn’t tell him, but there was some comfort in it being old, full of memories but probably full of – blech, don’t go there, Georgette.
Gideon was something else. No one else was so …sweet to her. And Georgette just let him. It was Gideon. No harm, no foul. “Your lady?” She smirked and shook her head as she sat down. It’s like he hadn’t grown up but maybe Georgette hadn’t grown up as much as she thought. Or she was still a Hogwarts student when it was just the two of them.
Georgette sighed contentedly as she sat down. She looked up at the sky. It was full of twinkling, bright stars. Funny how the sky could be so perfect with the world seeming to burn around it but all Georgette could see were stars.
“Reminds me of looking at the sky from the Ravenclaw tower, doesn’t it?” Georgette smiled. It was the first real smile she’d had in what felt like ages.
Gideon sat down beside her, stretching his legs out and leaning back onto his hands. He allowed himself to peak at the sky, before looking back at her. He watched as her eyes danced around the sky. He took a breath, seeming to ground himself, just as Georgette remarked on the similarity to looking at the stars from the old tower they had once called home.
He scoffed, replying “yeah kinda. I have a feeling I was a bit more stressed back then. Astronomy always made me manic for some reason.” He looked back at the sky, “probably cause I cant really see the constellations, or make the connections...like others”. He hoped that last pause was not caught by his friend, but knowing her, he would bet that it was.
“It’s been too long Van. And I know I have fault in that.” He gave her a smile, his eyes squinting, “But after what happened. I was.... scared. Then I heard they had actually killed someone.” He looked away, back out over the roof tops, before continuing “then Fabian had told me her name, and as bad as it sounds I was elated. I had feared the worst. I had imagined that you were out in the alley and caught in the crossfire.” He sat up, leaning over his knees, running his hands through his hair, “and I know you can protect yourself. You are one of the strongest witches I know, but also knowing that they had attacked. In Diagon. Where you were. I just felt so guilty that I wasn’t here. And I.. I don’t want that to happen again.” Gideon’s head fell, speaking softly, “I can’t even think about losing you.”
