Hey everyone,

My name is Elliot Harris and I’m the first admin for this blog with a couple more to come.

I have solely made this blog is to inspire others to make a change to love our planet and our people unconditionally. Also a few friends and I like to get into the good outdoors to capture some nice photos.

I myself have been over to backpack India and nepal for two months recently and will share a few experiences and tips.

Public transport vs. Driving

This is something that comes up a lot in conversation. Usually it starts something along the line of 'why don't you drive?' The answer is simple really. I don't need to, nor have I needed to get a license in the past. Generally everything that I do on a weekly basis can be traveled to somehow by Brisbane's public transport. Yes I know that it takes ages and that all you can do is sit on a train or bus, but it's soo much more convenient financially. On a weekly basis I spend as much as $20 on my go card (sometimes there is some left over, and sometimes I need to put more on, so it depends on the week). Per annum this adds up to $1,040 give or take a few for docile weeks. Compared to driving...... Well first I need a car soooooo....... Let's be optimistic and say I got a used car in ok condition for $500 (that's really optimistic I know), after that cost I have to pay for rego which may be $500 again on top of that. That's already $1,000 in just the purchase and legal requirements. After all of this I still have to pay for petrol and maintenance which could cost up to $50 a week. That's an extra $2,600 a year. Now I know what you are saying, what if you can't get there by PT? You first ask yourself a few questions; Is it worth going? Do I have anything else on? Who will be there? Can I get a lift? How far is the walk? Most of the time if it is worth going and you do have friends there you will be able to get a lift with a mate and pitch in for fuel. If you still can't get a lift and it meets all the requirement...... Well you walk. THAT SOUNDS SO HORRIBLE MICHAEL WHO WOULD WANT TO WALK PLACES!?!? People who don't have licenses. If there is no other way and you have to walk, then you walk. It's also quite healthy for you. This topic came up with a friend the other day and he told me that his daily activities see him walking 36km each day. That's a hell of a lot more than the recommended daily amount of activity and a good way to stay trim. Anyway... That's what I think.... Maybe hopefully you'll stop asking your content hippie friends why they don't drive.
