Rumiko Takahashi is a legendary mangaka who wrote Inuyasha, Ranma 1/2, and Urusei Yatsura. The character sitting next to Jyushimatsu is Lum, the heroine of Urusei Yatsura.

This is also not the first time the character designer, Naoyuki Asano, has drawn osomatsu san urusei yatsura cross over art

Honestly, Rumiko Takahashi has been writing off-beat, wacky characters since the 80s. It’s no surprise that Jyushimatsu would be the one to appeal to her.

BE WARNED: OCRamblings ahead! (3am thoughts that need to be written or theyre lost forever)

I think that after her dissertation is rejected and she’s banned from her university, June has a real bad time. She struggles with adjusting with everyday work life and tries her damnedest to get back into academics. By any means necessary…

In a panic, she comes up with a plan. Operate her own lab, continue her dissertation in secret, prove that her work is special/important/unique enough to require endless access to university funds, and essentially beg the administration to let her come back and study forever.

She needs help running the operation, so she prints out some flyers with her phone number for a volunteer lab assistant and after a long few weeks weeks of waiting, her first and only response is from THIS GUY! (the dude from the button ep that told the matsus to stfu)

I’ve named him Ryou because I got it from a name generator. It could potentially change later.

Anyway, he’s just there for those sweet community service hours. Despite the scary looks, he’s an alright worker with barely a word to say, but plenty of judgement. He finds her quite weird and annoying, but interesting enough. He sticks around because, well, he’s not bored.

Ryou would describe working for June as “…watching a car kick flip into an oncoming train.”
