having institutional access never stops feeling sort of crazy to me because you can literally type in any country and time period and find at least a handful of peer reviewed articles somewhere that discuss a specific aspect of people's lives in depth and at length like "what was considered pop culture in late imperial russia" or "how did the textile trade work in northern mali in the 1600s" or "children's toys in pre-colonial philippines" and it's just sitting there but the majority of people on planet earth aren't allowed to read any of it
1. Find the title of what you want. Google Scholar is a very user friendly way to look for academic journal articles.
2. Look that title up on ResearchGate (like LinkedIn/Facebook for research)
3. If the full PDF isn't available there, message the researcher and they'll usually share it with you and answer any questions you have!
4. If that fails, reach out to your local library! They can usually provide you access to their subscriptions, or they'll get the article you're looking for. Local community college librarians are the best at this IMO. They WILL get you that article.
aadam jacobs's archive
everyone's heard of this, right? per ap article of apr 8, 2026:
Jacobs went on to record more than 10,000 concerts, with increasingly sophisticated equipment, over four decades in Chicago and other cities. Now a group of devoted volunteers in the U.S. and Europe is methodically cataloging, digitizing and uploading them one by one. The growing Aadam Jacobs Collection [link to internet archive] is an internet treasure trove for music lovers, especially for fans of indie and punk rock during the 1980s through the early 2000s, when the scene blossomed and became mainstream. The collection features early-in-their-career performances from alternative and experimental artists like R.E.M., The Cure, The Pixies, The Replacements, Depeche Mode, Stereolab, Sonic Youth and Björk.
Do you like girls with distorted guitars who sing about toxic love?

Talking to friends with inept parents is crazy. No wonder they’re like this if their parents kept fumbling
“I’m having trouble adapting to my adult responsibilities” well no wonder, nobody raised you 😭😭😭
Hot tip for future parents: you actually have to guide your kid to adulthood. Feeding them and waiting for them to grow up is not enough since they are not house plants. A little more thought and care is required.
for those lacking certain "adulting" skills, especially things around the house, check out:
