A couple silly drawings from and inspired by the last entry in my Wandersong playthru. I shoulda added more little drawings but mainly i just wanted the excuse to play one of my favorite games of all time again ehehe.
I'm not much a voice actor or regular lets player but i just recorded it to share w friends, but thought I'd share here if anyone else was interested!
Wandersong is one of those games I just cannot recommend enough! If you're even a little interested please play it..... its so endlessly charming and wonderful...!! Otherwise if u want u can watch my playthru teehee
oh i had so much fun w it. I'll keep my thoughts under a readmore for spoilers sake but i got quite a few!!
I had so much fun!! I know I haven't been drawing much deltarune but i've been keeping up as a casual fan i suppose teehee. (as casual as noshing thru the chapter as soon as I had the time can be...)
I was an OG undertaler, so I can't deny the nostalgia got me at least a little(ouhhh the leitmotifs sobs. it was like a fun extra puzzle picking out the UT motifs interweaved throughout), but in that same way, I really like the way that the narrative played with nostalgia itself, to then subvert it.
For the first chunk of the game so much of the narrative Flowery was putting on the squad and imposing upon the world, "Just like good ol' times!" Reverting Ralsei's sprite, the gameplay elements being largely the same as the first chapter of deltarune, up until you get the feather.
That hard switch of gameplay to the platformer? That was SO FUN??? The use of a change of mechanic to subvert and escape that nostalgia trap being set for you, and also reflects the growth of the characters, how much both ralsei and susie have changed and grown over the course of the series, how much the team works together, its really really fun to see. Also it was so satisfying to play especially when you were able to time it all perfectly, showing how you can grow over the course of a game.
I think its always important to note how YOU, the PLAYER, receive feedback and improve upon your gameplay, and how the feeling of getting better adds to the experience too. (not even in the UTDR Meta way, just as a video game as a medium experience) And when it was tough, your friends helped out so you didn't have to do everything yourself? waaah!!!!
You know me and my hotel bullshit. I love a character that tries to keep you in a comfortable dream instead of facing the harsh reality that you can't go back to what was before, what you were before, you can't perpetuate a memory indefinitely, the world is marching on without you. I think Flowery was really interesting in him being such a reflection OF that desire of Asgore's, to keep those flowers alive indefinitely, that dream, that memory, but even Asgore has changed since the last Flowery really understood him. I suppose when you live in a bubble, yadda yadda.
I think the final fight was really fun to play. My only note is that i wish that Flowery's ACT mechanic came more into play and it would be so fun if there was a mechanic where your friends could fully be mercy'd out. (Which, kinda did happen, I came at this from a failed weird route without fully realizing i failed it, so i was trying to kill every1 even though after a point i was sure this was the Intended Experience. LOL) and if you hit flowery a couple times, both susie and ralsei heal flowery, and lose the ability to FIGHT. which i think is fun and fulfills what I was lookin for anyway.
MISC: i was laughing so hard the whole way through. I'm sure everyone talks about the Yellow Justice segment but it was so damn funny, i was near tears. All of the gags were just so charming and funny I just had a lot of fun. The spritework and writing of this chapter reminded me how much i love this series! Some bonus gags before I get into weird route.
ok. now regarding weird route:
yues. yess yes yes yse syey NOELLE! GO CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love weird route. I LOVE WEIRD ROUTE! I love seeing characters at their worst and the kind of person they become in the worst scenarios! Some people turn to heroism. Some people cower etc, some try to find out WHY, and for a character like Noelle, finding out why comes with breaking the very bounds of the game she's stuck in. She's a character trying to cope with great loss that no one is willing to investigate further, and those that do (Asgore in this case) have become conspiratory and nigh murderous, hiding under a placid smile. I wonder just how different Noelle might be.
But how much is her breaking the bounds, how much is it actually Scripted? Obviously it is, considering this is a game that we are playing. But her breakdown with Kris was soooo enlightening. Kris is being used by us, and despite resisting and even going BEHIND OUR BACKS! GASP! that night after chapter 3, to sneak over to take the thorn out of noelles hand and try to get her out of the terrible path we had constructed. I'm so interested in what Kris is about. What's happening with them. Why do they care so much about noelle, while still conversing with suspicious phone calls and (likely) creating these dark fountains? What is THEIR goal?
I keep pushing to get even a glimpse at kris when they're not under our thumb. UTDR has extremely strong writing in both it's pacifist inversion of an rpg narrative, that remains strong. As well as forcing characters who have the option and likely desire to be better, to reach out and make connections, to dream, and squashing them back into a mold of fight, kill, gain power.
Seeing that reflected in Noelle, but her still completely misunderstanding what is happening, ouhh i love it. Just another pair of hands forcing kris to do something. The point of no return made me shiver. I love that it's so easy to make a mistake trying weird route, to fall backwards away from the point of no return. Great gameplay storytelling, again.
OK THAT WAS VERY LONG. those are my thoughts :) i liked it!!!
... you should do the "Nasty Dog" meme with Birch and Hotelier
I see you, I hear you, but I did this other one instead - and realized just how out of my wheelhouse video editing is so I don't think I'll do more animemes unless I'm really inspired LOL

I really liked the tadc finale :) I think that the message of finding hope in each other, leaning on those around you and finding solace in community is a really welcome message in such uncertain times as these.
It can feel so much easier to believe nothing will get better and therefore not to try, or push all vulnerability aside for the safety of misery, but especially when so much is so terrifying around you, it's so important to lean on your friends and loved ones to support not only yourself but others in the conjoined arms of everyone, trying to reach for something better.
Don't be afraid to reach out to those you care about, and don't be afraid to genuine in everything you do.
