here’s a fun fact I think I forgot on purpose but was reminded of while browsing the depths of my deviant art gallery: my design of the merboy from High Tide was based on the race of merpeople from the fantasy world I was creating at age, like, 16-20, which is when I did the paintings along the top. This was the world I was inventing a language for, the world whose map I painted on a real globe, and the world that was going to be my setting for dozens of epic bestselling novels… you know the one.

I don’t know if I have a real point to make here, except that maybe the stories you abandoned a long time ago can be a good source to mine for new projects, and also it’s fun to put stuff like this together and realize how much less you suck at art than you used to.

Cowplant WIP

Here is how far I got with painting today. I am painting the green parts of the plant first. Trying to recreate the gradients on the stem and leaves is probably the hardest part. I am layering on the gradients and then I will add more detail as I go. After that I will repeat the same process on the leaves.
