That fact is a part of the Mahler rant that I have stored inside of me—and it kills me that when Katia stops and stares off into the distance, it’s to think back to the memories that she’s had with Sergei… and when Tessa and Scott stop to stare off into the distance, they’re gazing into a mirror of their future selves, old and grey and still with each other.

That parallel… of Katia skating to commemorate the memory of her partner and love and their past and history—and Tessa and Scott also skating to commemorate their past and history, but also for the future that they have… the future that Katia only got a taste of with Sergei.

That. Kills. Me.

Because of what Tessa and Scott represent to Katia. A figure skating pair with the same connection and abilities to create magic on the ice, only separated by cultures and years, skating to her song for Sergei. Using it as the soundtrack for their past and future.
