thinking of another AU where Light joins the police force and works with L in person, and they have a business trip to Italy or something and it's just Light and L having a chaotic crash course on learning Italian for five days straight and competing who learns faster.. the rest of the task force just watches, works in the same room where notes on Italian (probably written neatly by Light) are thrown all over the place (by L) and Light doesn't sleep because L doesn't sleep so he's angsty and replies L in angry Italian. The task force just hears (angry?) rapid-speaking Italian in a few days and tries not to bother.

In one of the Death Note live action movies (I think it was Light Up the New World), a man changes his name after harboring guilt about past crimes and trying to atone (not even answering to that name). He's only killed after his new name gets put in the book, since he shed his old name.

Man wasn't trans, but if the logic applied to him, logic should apply to trans people too!

That means you can change your name or consider yourself to have a new name and the death note recognizes it.
