Only once his back was fully turned did he let his smile fully show, the stars hanging above him in the darkening sky suddenly seeming a hundred times brighter with the knowledge he did get to say one last bye before leaving, May’s laugh still ringing through his ears like a melody he couldn’t ever get tired of. Yeah, May was right; they’d definitely see each other again. And that moment he knew better than anything that, next time, he wouldn’t make such a silly mistake again. He wouldn't leave her behind so soon—he’d stick around. He’d be there for her.
He’d be there, when she needs it most.

The plane ride to Alola had been pretty uneventful, but it did give Takeshi plenty of time to think about everything.
Well, mostly about Satoshi, which admittedly concerningly was a lot. The younger boy had been on his mind a lot, especially since that abrupt call apparently forced by Pikachu's doing, which honestly, seeing how those two are over the past three regions, he'd believe it.
Of course Pikachu would decide on their trai- no, more like partners behalf to make the call to him. Perhaps a small startling realization of that Pikachu trusts him, of all Satoshi's travelling companions, but he tries not to think too much on it.
There are other things he'd needed to focus on for sure- such as making sure this plan works, or well, along those lines, but perhaps he does overthink about everything because now Kasumi is making a face at him. He could've sworn that she was sleeping a moment ago in her seat. Even after all his time journeying with her, she's always been such a mystery of her own.
"What in the world got you so wound up this time?"
Did he seem that wound up to her? His eyebrow arched and for a moment, in this small contained space, maybe he could admit something.
Yet, something held him back, and it was Satoshi's askance from back then. That's what was holding him back, but Kasumi was also their friend. Even if she didn't understand the whole situation, she should least be told something.
His mouth in a thin line, considering his options then releasing a small sigh. "I'm worried about Satoshi."
A slow blink is her response, and there's something about her eyes trying to see through him. She slowly gets out of her relaxed position and she slowly moves closely to his proximity, as much as one can on a plane seats. "What do you mean? He seemed fine last time when he came over with his classmates. Plus, this whole trip is for you to check on... "
Then she squints at him, coming closer with the armrest being the only thing stopping her. The girl seethes out, "So, there was something else you weren't telling me, huh? What more could you possibly not be telling me?"
Oh, that kind of stung, and to be fair she was right, Takeshi hadn't been quite honest with the whole reason.
With the way the poor armrest the only thing that'd stop her from encroaching his space and maybe stop her from being physical with him, he raised his hands up as if to pacify her. "Alright, look, I'm... sorry for not--"
She shoots a glare at him, yet draws back away from him- and it kind of hurts.
"Okay, I'll just skip the apologies and tell you everything."
And so he did- telling her about the video call he received from Satoshi, many weeks ago. The call that started it all, so to speak. "Satoshi called me one night, but had then he hung up on me on first ring."
He then entails everything about the startling conversation, bits by bits, that had occurred between the two of them. Offhandedly, the student mentions, "It was Pikachu who took the initiative, actually. The initiative to call, that is."
"Pikachu?" The girl responds with surprise, turning to face her friend again. Even though she had some misgivings right now, there was no doubt in her mind that Satoshi's Pikachu would do that for him. That Pikachu had been with Satoshi the longest; and perhaps understood him more often than not.
It took her back a to that time: her first few days with Satoshi and Pikachu. After the harrowing incident in the Pokemon Center, she remembers a kid trying to help his Pikachu, doing anything and everything - and that kid owed her a bike - so she followed him. An unwilling companions the two of them were, arguments abound, as well, the many adventures and battles alike.
Takeshi has her full attention now, shifting slightly in her seat to listen more closely. As she suspected, there had been more than what meets the eye, the very least.
He contiues, "It was obvious but he wasn't up to talking to me. I tried to ease him into talking about other things instead."
For a moment, he falters as he looks away a moment. He sharply inhales, then breathed out shakily - his face turning somewhat unreadable to Kasumi - but she felt something was happening, whatever it was, and it was going to be big.

this was supposed to be for day 5 of cs day 2026, but i ended up burnt out with some pretty bad depression. either way, i fought myself to continue some and finish what i had on my own pace! if anyone would like to see a day 6, let me know ^^
first day of contestshipping week 2026! it's my first time ever joining such a thing, so I'm doing my best here and I hope you enjoy!
I wanted to start working on every day a bit ago, but I ended up spending more than 2 weeks up until yesterday working on an animatic I wanted to have for the final day/contestshipping day, soo. I'm gonna try my best to make something small at least every single day instead of making huge things!
