#by 'age and maturity' i mean i'm 19 now and not 14 #this blog is almost 5 years old. damn

i'm watching the first movie again for the first time in years and one thing that i've noticed just based on my recollection of the books is that everything that thomas does in the movies has a wildly different tone than it does in the books

in the books, thomas is clever. he's scared shitless, he's understandably an emotional wreck, but the books make it very clear that thomas survives everything purely because he is clever. he's given so much more time in the books to be a scared teenager reacting to the situation that he's in. in a classic 16 year old fashion, his favorite spot is alone by the walls in the woods where he can think

contrast this to the movies where thomas gets through everything purely through bravery. he's the first one who killed a griever because he was the first one brave enough to. he doesn't have time to think about things and process and be scared. the situation doesn't threaten to crush him like it would any normal person.

that's one thing i've got to hand to the books. movie!thomas is more Hero than he is human, and while you can definitely still relate to a character like that, book!thomas is kind of a refresher after being so used to that hero archetype in media

I've been seeing people saying that Disney is funding the IDF, and whilst Disney has pledged money to Israel, misinformation is bad, so here is what's actually going on:

Bob Iger pledged 2 million dollars to Israel in humanitarian relief. 1 million dollars will be going to the Red Cross, whilst 1 million will be going to various non profits. This is for the civilians affected by the 7th October attack, and won't be recieved by the IDF or Israeli government.

Whilst Disney still does absolutely suck, its important not to spread misinformation.

As for boycotting: BDS has not listed Disney on their list of companies to boycott. The main companies to boycott companies are the ones that have actually donated to the IDF or are complicit in the Palestinian oppression and genocide, such as Burger King, MacDonalds, Pizza Hut, Papa John's Pizza and Starbucks. Here is a list of other companies to boycott.

You can still boycott Disney if you still want to because let's be honest, Disney fucking sucks.

TLDR: Disney funded humanitarian relief and not the military. You don't have to boycott Disney. You can still bocyott Disney if you want because Disney still fucking sucks. Misinformation is bad. Companies supporting IDF are bad. Free Palestine.
