OKAY! So, with the announcement of Dawntrail, I feel that I should make this update so that there’s ample time for my followers to prepare;

After the release of Dawntrail and 7.0, Endwalker spoilers will no longer be tagged on this blog. In addition, after the two-week courtesy period, spoilers for Dawntrail will be tagged as “dawntrail spoilers”, along with the patch number for 7.+ as “7.(insert number) spoilers”

I will be reblogging this periodically throughout the next several months, as well as pinning it to my blog. I know it’s months away, I just want to give people time to prepare.

My favorite thing they do in a video game where you can dress up your character is go to a cold region and the NPCs say Better bundle up! And start wearing their winter coats and scarves and so on for that section of the story. Technically as an audience we’d all survive if they just continued to wear the one outfit they were designed with, however impractical for the setting, because that is one of the many oddities that the honed gamer mind is trained to withstand. As the player you are yourself almost never forced to put on a practical glamour for this weather. But it just gets you in the spirit of the thing if everyone is toasty, and it’s really cute besides. The coat alt. And I like when they specifically encourage the player to dress warmly for these sections too, even or especially if it’s a game where there’s no actual Cold mechanic you have to equip against. The game encourages the user to play toys with it

Instead of introducing a new race in a future xpac (if they even want to anymore) they should shake things up a bit. Introduce a third clan to all existing races.

i think my favorite ff14 narrative gimmick is that the savage raid unlocks are explicitly just the WOL having adhd daydreams about the cool shit they've done. the omega raids are even explicitly about cid trying to put on an ASMR tibetan meditation spotify playlist to calm them down but the WOL is unmedicated so it really only makes the problem worse

Actually, before it dies down completely, I do need to be angry for a minute about how misogynistic and infantilizing it is to explicitly depict people shipping their fem WoLs with Emet as just "not getting" his queer coding.

Divorcing this bullshit from the biphobia for a minute to focus on the misogyny, people fucking get it. It's not subtle.

Alternatively, if you're not willing to believe me about that, you could believe that I'm not some sheltered ingenue freshly out of the womb and have existed in proximity to pop culture and seen like, any Disney movie before 2015. Anybody who knows anything about the Hayes code, queer history, or has existed even in proximity to any film or any queer spaces for all of 2 entire minutes knows how to clock 'gay' stereotypes. ESPECIALLY flamboyant queer coded villains. It's extremely insulting, infantilizing, and patronizing to insinuate that these dumbass women just don't get it and that's the only possible reason why they ship their WoL with the most popular NPC in the entire fucking game.

People GET IT. They choose to interpret that as somewhere on the bi spectrum, somewhere on the ace spectrum, Emet's or their WoL's identity as somewhere off-center on the grand multifaceted sphere of gender, or that the Ancients who could shape shift and live for fucking ever maybe didn't have narrow definitions of either gender or sexuality, or any myriad other possible interpretation that there's just as much textual evidence for if you want to get academic and pedantic about it.

It's so fucking insulting and dismissive of women to cosign that shit. Fuck, dude.
