At a brunch outing one Sunday morning in May some 20 years ago or so, my entire extended family was sitting in some restaurant or other in Southern California where they served this drink. Everyone was gathered to celebrate both my grandmother's birthday and to pass out Mother's Day gifts for every mom in the family. Among these festivities, after about twenty minutes of enduring passive aggressive Catholic nagging, my brother saw this on the menu and decided, quote, "I am way too sober to be here."

He ordered it by its full name at top volume so our grandmother would have to hear, and when it didn't get him drunk fast enough, ordered another, and then had to be literally carried back to the car after brunch was over.

I don't know how much of the in-between he remembers, but I, at 15, found it very entertaining and was backing him up on the bit of desperately trying to make our extremely conservative extended family say the words "Adios, Motherfucker" by pretending we didn't know which drink they meant when they asked him how it was or why he ordered that. Our cousin rounded this out by being funnier than either of us else and telling my brother, "Adios, motherfucker," as we left with me and my dad carrying him out of the restaurant, with our grandmother hiding her face in shame.
