"hyung! come help me!" taehyung yelled from his room, typing tumblr.com into the search bar.
seokjin came in, knocking lightly at the door to let taehyung know he was there. "what do you want, i was studying."
"hyung, yesterday was my birthday."
"i am aware."
"i'm thirteen now."
"i know."
"you told me you'd help me make a tumblr when i turned thirteen."
seokjin rolled his eyes. "is that what this is about? i seriously have to go study, tae. the sat is really important-"
"more important than keeping your relationship with your dear brother?" taehyung pouted, making his best puppy eyes at seokjin.
"puppy eyes stopped working on me when you hit puberty, you dork."
dammit.
"more important than namjoon hyung finding out that you were the one that sabotaged his date with his last girlfriend?" taehyung grinned.
seokjin sputtered. "what-how do you- who told you?!"
"you did, that night you came home drunk from that 'sleepover' with 'just a couple friends, mom, calm down'." taehyung quoted mockingly, making air quotes with his hands. "or maybe i could tell umma about how you came home at five am that one time-"
"shut up, you brat, you tell anyone anything and i'll kill you." seokjin hissed, clapping his hand over taehyung's mouth. taehyung licked it and seokjin quickly withdrew, grimacing as he wiped his palm on his jeans.
"so you'll help me?"
"fine." seokjin huffed, slouching into the chair next to taehyung. "i hate you. if i fail the sat, it's your fault."
"you love me." taehyung smiled innocently. "you've been studying for the last two months and you're not taking it until may, hyung, you're fine."
"well, let's get this over with. click over there to sign up. good. now you just have to choose a url."
"a url?"
"like a username, but you can write it as a website and it'll take someone directly to your blog. like, here, i'll show you mine."
seokjin took the key board, and opening a new tab, typed in pink-marjin.tumblr.com. it loaded to reveal a blog that was, unsurprisingly, mostly pink. scrolling down, taehyung found that most of seokjin's posts were complaints about school and posts about mario. some fanart and audio of rapnammon's music. when taehyung shot him a confused look, because rap really wasn't seokjin's thing, seokjin blushed.
"it's namjoon's blog." he mumbled as explanation, and taehyung began to cackle in response.
"does he know this is yours?"
seokjin shot him a scandalized look. "absolutely not, no. i would never tell him."
"but it has your name as the title of the blog."
"there's more than one seokjin in the world."
"has he asked you about it?"
"...yes, but i said it wasn't me."
taehyung earned a swift smack to the back of his head when he began cackling again.
"shut up, do you want me to help you make your blog or not?" seokjin threatened, and taehyung quickly put his hands in the air.
seokjin sighed. "okay, so come up with a tumblr url and then we'll get the rest done."
taehyung thought for a bit, staring at the ceiling before typing in blanktae.
seokjin chuckled. "your nickname?"
"well, it used to be." taehyung grinned, before pouting when he found out it was taken.
"try adding a dash in the middle." seokjin suggested, but it was still taken.
"whyyyyy" taehyung complained, pouting.
"try adding something else, something you like, like a color or something."
taehyung's eyes surveyed his room as he thought. his eyes brightened when they landed on his skateboard leaning against the wall.
his fingers flew over the keyboard. blanktaeboard.
seokjin looked over where taehyung had been looking, laughing when he realized. "skateboard, huh? alright, it works."
"and it's not taken!" taehyung cheered, quickly filling out the other information. he sat back in pride as his tumblr was created.
"now, if you want to, you choose a photo for your icon and you can change your theme on your blog and all that. make it look nicer." seokjin instructed. "you can ask me later if you get stuck. i'm gonna go study."
seokjin stood to leave when he saw taehyung type his url into the search bar.
"don't follow me!" seokjin ordered.
"i'm not!" taehyung shouted back as seokjin left the room. he selected options when seokjin's blog came up, and blocked his brother.
there. safe.
taehyung blankly stared at his empty dashboard. well, he got a tumblr.
so what does he do with it now?
he sighed. he knew what he was supposed to do, but he couldn't think of anything to type in the search bar.
he stood, stretching, before strolling over to his window. glancing over to jungkook's room, which happened to be directly across from his, he caught sight of jungkook dancing along to the girl group song that the younger had vehemently swore he hated.
"it's so repetitive, it's really annoying." the younger had claimed when taehyung pouted at him for not joining in wild dancing.
ha.
right.
taehyung blinked.
oh, dancing. he can look that up.
returning to his seat, he typed dance into the search bar and waited for everything to load.
a grid of posts, ranging from simple text to half hour long videos filled the screen, and taehyung grinned.
after scrolling for a while and reblogging a couple of things, he found a video of a single boy standing in a studio. pressing play, the music from the newest big bang album poured through taehyung's earbuds.
he grinned. good music taste, then.
taehyung was just about to sit back and enjoy the music when the boy began to freestyle.
this guy's dancing made him want to pause the video, go get a glass of water, and then restart the video so he could get a good spit take in because hot damn this guy was amazing.
he watched the guy dance, questioning the existence of bones and all other things solid within the human body because this guy was clearly pretty built for someone who seemed about taehyung's age, but he moved like he was made of water. no one should be able to do a body roll that smoothly, that's just unfair, taehyung mentally argued with the screen, wanting to take the guy in the video by the shoulders and shake him around.
how does one even get that good at dancing?
he looked at the username- jimblinjammin. clicking on the name, a smaller version of the blog opened on the side of his screen.
he was surprised that the blog description was in korean. he squinted at it, trying to recall the lessons that jungkook had walked him through just earlier. korean really wasn't sticking with him well, and taehyung struggled with it a lot, even though both of his moms spoke it, all of jungkook's family and extended family that came to visit, and the school he went to on saturdays. jungkook had confessed that when they met, taehyung's korean had been so bad that the busan boy had barely been able to understand him. jungkook had comforted him while he was struggling with "hey, at least i can understand what you're trying to say now. if there was a crazy person on a plane and you had to jump off and you landed in south korea, you could probably get by. if you lived the fall, that is."
both taehyung and jungkook's mom smacked him for that. along with seokjin later when taehyung was moping in his room later.
he slowly decoded the language. it would have been much easier to get someone else to translate, but seokjin was already slightly annoyed at him, either of his parents would give him that disappointed look he hated so much, and jungkook would tease him endlessly for wanting help on what wasn't even a full sentence.
pa-park jimin. okay. dancer, jungkook told me that yesterday. busan- busan? wasn't jungkook from there? and what the everloving fuck was that word? wait wait the teacher went over this- native! it means native! and p-proud 95 liner?
park jimin, dancer, busan native, and proud 95 liner ^^
taehyung sat back, proud that he'd figured it out.
but wait, what does 95 liner even mean? and jungkook was from busan, maybe they know each other?
taehyung shot up from his chair, throwing open his window and grappling for one of the bean bags he kept near the window for this very reason. he frowned when he realized he only had one left. he needed to stock up on these.
he flung the bean bag at jungkook's window, where the younger was still dancing to girl group songs. jungkook startled, turning to face the window and dead panning when he saw taehyung dangling slightly out of his window. he messed around in his room for a bit- probably turning off the music, taehyung mused- before he was throwing open his window as well.
"what do you want?" jungkook called in perfect english.
taehyung gasped. "you'd be so rude to your hyung like that?" he called back in korean.
jungkook rolled his eyes, continuing in english because he knew his korean was too fast and accented for taehyung to keep up with, "what would you like, hyung?"
"you're from busan, right?"
"uh, yeah, why?"
"do you know someone named park jimin?"
"probably, that's like the most common name in korea and it's unisex how am i supposed to know which park jimin you mean? also how big do you think busan is it's huge that's like me asking if you know someone named aaron in the next town over!" jungkook called, annoyed.
"sorry, sorry, it's just a question!"
jungkook sighed, retreating into his room and starting to close the window.
"wait!" taehyung called.
jungkook opened the window a bit more. "what?"
"what does 95 liner mean?"
"you couldn't just google it?"
"you're closer."
jungkook rolled his eyes again. why is this eleven year old so sassy? "it means that someone was born in 1995. like you, hyung, you're a 95 liner."
"why does that matter?"
"it's someone's age, do i have to go over the whole honorific lecture with you again?"
the big window beneath taehyung opened. "seriously boys, stop yelling at each other from your windows!" taehyung's umma called in korean. "for god's sake jungkook-ah just come over!"
"okay!" jungkook called back and closed his window.
taehyung returned to his computer, scrolling through park jimin's blog. he found that a lot of the asks were in english, and jimin mostly replied in english as well. a couple asks were in korean, and the blogger always seemed very excited when he could answer in his first language, from what taehyung could understand.
he heard jungkook come thundering up the staircase and seriously, how does an eleven year old boy make so much noise? he's all skin and bones how does he manage to sound like an elephant-
"okay what do you want?" jungkook demanded, slamming the door behind him and flinging himself into the chair next to taehyung.
"for you to learn how to knock, look, it's very simple, you just-" he reached over and promptly rapped his knuckles against jungkook's forehead, who began to whine.
"hyung- hyung sto- stop. c'mon hyung i'll knock next time stop that." taehyung chuckled as jungkook continued to whine, ruffling his hair before settling back in his own seat.
jungkook leaned over to see the blog that was open better. "what's this?" he asked.
"oh, i got a tumblr today." taehyung explained. "i found this guy and he looks really cool."
"is this why you were asking about the name park jimin?"
"yeah, that's this name." taehyung admitted, scrolling to the top to show jungkook the description.
jungkook read it quickly. "are there any photos of him?"
"not that i've seen. just videos of him dancing but most of them you can't see his face at all." taehyung said, showing jungkook a couple of videos.
"he's good." jungkook nodded.
"not as good as you are at girl group dances." taehyung chuckled under his breath.
"what?"
"your window is literally right across from mine and you leave the blinds wide open, so everyday i get my own personal oh my girl show starring jeon jungkook. i should start selling tickets."
jungkook buried his head in his hands, a flush creeping up his neck. "please never speak of this again."
"i won't," taehyung smirked, "as long as you stop holding out on me every time a girl group song comes on."
"but you're such weirdo when you start singing along." jungkook whined.
taehyung shot him a look, "you literally put on a concert everyday in your room, high notes and all."
"you have no proo-"
"i video taped you dancing along to iu's good day, three part high note and all."
"...i hate you."
taehyung merely grinned at jungkook, who huffed.
taehyung was starting to get a handle on this whole running a tumblr thing. jungkook would disagree, claiming that all taehyung had done was become more obsessed with the things he was already obsessed with and create a closer relationship with his desk chair.
taehyung's moms were just happy that taehyung had started working harder to understand korean and be able to write and read it well. little did they know the real reason for it was because taehyung really wanted to be able to send jimin an ask in korean, and maybe become his friend.
"you're obsessed." jungkook had said upon walking into taehyung's room after dance practice to find the elder scrolling through jimin's blog for the nth time that day.
taehyung frowned as he watched the newest video from jimin's dance practice. he spun around in his chair to face jungkook, who had collapsed onto taehyung's bed and had already started playing piano tiles.
"hey, jungkook?"
jungkook didn't look up from his phone.
"what?"
"should i start dancing?"
jungkook's eyes flickered to taehyung for a moment, eyebrows furrowed as his eyes quickly returned to his phone. "why?"
taehyung sighed, leaning back. "cause both you and jimin seem to really enjoy it so maybe i should try it?"
"it's not easy." jungkook muttered as his fingers flew across the screen.
"i know, and i'd be starting really late too and i'd probably the worst in the class... i don't know."
"is this just about jimin and i dancing, hyung?"
taehyung stayed quiet, long enough for jungkook to become concerned. he stopped his game, losing the high score he was racking up. jungkook sat up on the bed and stared at taehyung.
"is there something else that's bothering you, hyung?" jungkook asked seriously.
taehyung shrugged. "i just... i don't know. it seems like everyone around me is being active and healthy and all i'm doing is sitting around on tumblr and gaining weight."
"taehyung," jungkook stated slowly, "is someone bothering you about your weight?"
"no!" taehyung wildly shook his head, but jungkook wasn't entirely convinced.
jungkook continued staring taehyung down, the tension in the room thick enough to cut with a knife.
taehyung sighed, eyes dropping to the floor.
"a couple... a couple of guys- and girls- may have, may have mentioned it once," he rubbed at his arm. "or twice," he stared more at the floor, "or everyday for the last three weeks." he whispered.
jungkook shot up. "i swear to god i'm gonna kill-"
"jungkook!" taehyung shouted over jungkook's ranting, "they're like three times my size. neither of us stand a chance. i'm just gonna try to keep ignoring them."
jungkook took a deep breath. "did they say anything else?"
taehyung shook his head.
jungkook looked even more intently into taehyung's eyes.
"they didn't! i'm not lying!" taehyung barked.
jungkook nodded, collapsing back onto the bed. "okay, okay, i trust you." he patted the spot next to him and taehyung quietly made his way over, lying next to jungkook.
jungkook curled into taehyung's side, something that he only did when he was feeling particularly upset or insignificant.
taehyung wrapped his arm around jungkook, shifting so the two were cuddling, jungkook's head tucked under his chin.
"hey." jungkook's voice interrupted the silence, muffled by taehyung's shirt.
taehyung just hummed in response.
"you're great."
taehyung didn't reply.
jungkook continued anyways.
"you're so nice to everyone and your laugh is really infectious. and when you smile your mouth makes a rectangle and it's kinda weird but it's also the best thing ever. and you have this like aura? i don't know. it's like impossible to stay upset around you because you're just the kind of person that everyone gravitates towards and i'm kind of jealous of that because you know what happens when you leave me alone with strangers."
taehyung chuckled at the memory of jungkook, not much smaller, spouting korean at a rapid pace (with his busan dialect stronger than ever) at a very confused cashier when taehyung had gone to look at the candy aisle and mrs. jeon had forgotten to grab something.
jungkook's muscles relaxed a fraction at the familiar sound, but didn't stop talking.
"and i don't know what weight they're talking about, your metabolism is too fast for your own good. i want that metabolism." jungkook snuggled closer. "but if you want to start dancing, make sure you're doing it for you. like that you wanna be healthy. and you won't be with your age group cause they'll start you with a younger class to catch up. and it's a lot of work and dedication because you know how often i'm gone. it's a lot of work. but," jungkook tugged taehyung closer, so that his words were so muffled that taehyung had to strain his ears to hear them, "i'm sure you could do it if you wanted it. you're always able to do the stuff you want to, it's almost annoying how focused you can get on something, but it always turns out exactly how you wanted it and it makes me want to work harder so i can be like that too."
taehyung smiled and started petting jungkook's hair.
"i'll think about it, kookie."
(when he went to school on monday, none of the kids who had been bullying him could look him in the eye, all stuttering out apologies and running away. when taehyung confronted jungkook, he smiled and promised that he didn't do anything to taehyung's bullies to make them do that. he pinky promised too, which meant he wasn't lying.)
((when taehyung asked seokjin about it, the elder simply shot him a stare. "you think that i really wouldn't do anything when jungkook comes and tells me that you're being bullied at school? besides, i didn't do anything to them directly, not really." taehyung was even more confused at this point. ))
((("so what did you do?")))
(((("i sent yoongi after them" "ohhh, shit okay."))))
taehyung sat in his desk chair, quietly going over the pros and cons of what he wanted to do.
he sighed and pressed the send button.
he watched a couple of youtube videos before allowing himself to return to tumblr to refresh the page.
there it was. a reply.
he took a deep breath, re-reading both his own message and reading jimin's reply.
anonymous asked:
hey, i was thinking about starting to dance, because both you and one of my really good friends enjoy it and i'm starting to worry about my weight a bit... do you have any suggestions for someone just starting out?
taehyung had sent the question in korean, and jimin had replied in korean. taehyung opened up google translate for backup and prepared himself for the struggle to begin.
jimblinjammin answered:
first off, my policy is that unless the doctor tells you that you should be worried about your weight, you shouldn't be worried about your weight. if someone is teasing you about it, brush it off. it's happened to me a lot, and was actually the reason i started dancing, but every kid that teased me has had something happening in their life that made them push it off onto me. it's not an excuse for their behavior, but they're probably not trying to push you below them as much as pull you to their level. misery loves company, so just try to brush it off. or repsond in kindess, it always throws them off and i've actually gained a friend like that.
about dancing, it's going to be difficult, but something tells me that your friend may have also told you that. dancing is a lot of hard work when you do it right, and you will get out of it what you put in. if you pour everything into it, heart and soul and energy, you'll get satisfaction back like you've never felt before.
dance is often about the little things, and progress will be slow. people often improve in large increments after having a very slow scale improvement for a long time.
as long as you work hard and stay dedicated, i'm sure you'll surprise yourself with how well you can do!
proud of himself for not needing the translator (other than for the word 'increments', but that doesn't count), he sat back in his chair. two people's opinions now, and they both had almost the same response. don't worry about your weight, dancing is hard, but both of them really enjoy it.
the guys at school had left him alone, but taehyung still found himself checking the mirror everyday and being eternally displeased with what he saw.
he still wasn't doing any sort of physical activity, but he had tried to cut down a bit on all the fatty foods he eats on the regular.
no difference.
but everyone would be so much better than him at dancing that it would no doubt bring down his self confidence more. or he would be placed in a class with a bunch of little kids and he could honestly say he didn't know which was worse.
so what was he going to do?
anonymous asked:
hi, i messagde u a while back on whether i should start dancing or not... i thought i'd update u that i started dancing!!! it's rlly hard and everyone is better cause i joined my age group but my friend is helping me and i'm rlly liking it a ton, thank you ^^
"i made a typo!" taehyung moaned, face buried into the pillow on his bed, jungkook sitting next to him.
"everyone makes typos, get over yourself. also literally all of it was abbreviated so i'm pretty sure he won't give a shit about the typo. chill." jungkook mumbled, furiously tapping at his phone.
taehyung's head poked up from his pillow. "what are you doing?"
"playing piano tiles."
"oh." taehyung's head returned to the pillow. "lame."
"what did you think i would be doing?" jungkook asked, before cursin quietly under his breath. "you made me lose my score!"
"language."
jungkook snorted, "like you're one to talk."
there was a lull in the conversation as jungkook restarted his level and taehyung remained buried in his pillow, breathing slowly. just as he was about to fall asleep, jungkook spoke up.
"...so what'd he say?"
taehyung turned his head, staring at jungkook. "...who?"
jungkook sighed heavily. "jimin, you idiot."
"oh," taehyung glanced at his phone that lay between them, "i didn't check..."
jungkook groaned, turning off his phone and grabbing taehyung's.
taehyung threw himself across jungkook's lap, attempting to snatch his phone back. he pouted as jungkooked gheld it above his head, just out of reach.
"you don't even know my password." taehyung claimed, still reaching for the device.
jungkook stared down at taehyung as he typed in the password and opened the tumblr app.
taehyung pouted more. "fuck off."
"language." jungkook chastised playfully.
taehyung glared and jungkook laughed at his attemtps to be scary while also being too lazy to sit up to get his phone back.
jungkook scrolled to find the message, clearing his throat dramatically as he came upon it.
"that's awesome! i'm so glad you're enjoying it :) it's hard at first, i know, but stick with it and you'll be better than everyone else before you know it. make sure that friend of yours watches out ^^
i'm glad you messaged me--i was wondering what you had decided to do just recently actually, so this was a very much appreciated surprise! i hope you have lots of luck in dancing, work hard, and good luck!!"
jungkook snorted. "this guy uses so many emojis and exclamation points it's almost disgusting-"
"he was thinking about me?" taehyung asked aloud, eyes wide and starry.
jungkook blinked, stumped. "i mean, maybe. you did message him about dancing, and he cares about that, so he might have, but also it might just be to keep you as a fan... i dunno. there's a good chance he was just saying that."
when taehyung's pout reappeared, jungkook hurried to fix his mistake. "i mean, you did message him about dancing, and your weight and stuff, and he really cared in the first message, and he seemed really excited in this one too so he probably did actually think about it, you know, he seems really nice-"
taehyuing laughed, breaking jungkook's spew of words. "thanks kookie," he grinned, "you're the best."
jungkook blushed at the praise, shoving taehyung off. "shut up. and don't call me kookie."
"awh, is the baby embarrassed?" taehyung teased, shoving his fingers in jungkook's side, tickling the younger relentlessly.
jungkook squealed (he would claim that it was a manly shout- it wasn't) and tried to squirm away fruitlessly, as taehyung's fingers pursued him no matter where he went.
"hyung-ack! s-stop that oh my god i c-can't breathe i'm dying-" jungkook shrieked, laughing.
"never!" taehyung shouted, grinning as he tried to pin jungkook down.
"boys!" taehyung's umma yelled from the kitchen. "stop making so much noise or you don't get dinner!"
taehyung stopped immediately. "sorry umma!"
"it's all taehyung hyung's fault!" jungkook shouted at the same time. taehyung elbowed him in the side and jungkook flinched away, stomach tender from the last attack it suffered.
"dinner's ready!" taehyung's mom called, and the two hurried downstairs, phones forgotten on the bed sheets.
fast forward a couple months, and taehyung had established himself a solid spot on jimin's blog as the common anon visitor "dance anon". jungkook rolled his eyes every time taehyung clicked the anonymous button, claiming that taehyung should "man up and go off anon already, god, it's not like jimin is gonna stop wanting to be friends with you."
taehyung wasn't sure still. he had posted a couple selfies on his tumblr that had gotten a couple likes, and a lot of his #not daily daily talks were fairly popular as well. a couple videos of him skateboarding and dancing had aroused interest, but he was still very much an unknown user. not like jimin, who had just posted a follow forever to thank everyone for 5k followers. jimin had apparently only started his blog a couple months before taehyung had, when he turned 13. some followers who had messaged jimin were up to eight years older than him, and when asked, jimin had admitted that some people sent inappropriate messages that he tried to ignore.
this admission had led to something taehyung would have never expected- yoongi (since when did he have a tumblr?) took jimin under his wing, almost like a guardian that fought off the perverts and taught jimin how to block the porn blogs. it was pretty amusing to see the grumpy old yoongi turn into such a overprotective mother hen.
taehyung opened tumblr, looking at the newest reply from jimin.
anonymous asked:
we started this new choreo today and omg im so s o r e everything hurts plz send helpppp also how do isolations work i dont get it whut -dance anon
jimblinjammin answered:

taehyung grinned, opening a new message and typing quickly.
i'll have to try that then... i think my mom keeps some epsom salt hidden so we don't touch it but maybe if i beg her she'll let me use it *-* -dance anon
taehyung clicked send and switched over to his other tab, a youtube video of some guys playing a video game together.
he froze when realized.
he forgot to click anon.
"fuck."
"i'm like, a thousand percent sure it'll be totally fine," jungkook grumbled, lying face down in bed, "so go home and let me sleep."
"it's your fault for not being awake," taehyung shot back, pacing around the bedroom, "and it will not be 'totally fine' this is a crisis and he hasn't replied to it."
"it's, what," jungkook squinted at the clock, "three-thirty am? how did you even get into my house?"
"good question, but not for now. there are other good questions, like why isn't jimin responding? will he hate me? is our friendship over? why aren't you wearing a shirt? will jimin ever speak to me again?"
"it's, what, seven somethin at night in korea? he's probably eating or some shit, chill." jungkook mumbled, rubbing his eyes as he sat up. Â "also i strip in my sleep. you were the one who figured it out, dork."
taehyung blinked, pausing in his pacing. "oh yeah."
jungkook rolled his eyes and buried himself into his blankets again. "go to bed, hyung."
when taehyung didn't move, jungkook cracked an eye open. when greeted with a sheepish smile, jungkook sighed. "what?"
"i may or may not have locked myself out of my house." taehyung admitted, hands playing with the hem of his ratty t-shirt.
jungkook rolled his eyes before lifting his quilt, but not without a put-upon sigh to accompany the movement.
taehyung grinned and slipped into bed, instantly curling into jungkook.
"you're the best."
"i know."
jungkook swung lazily on his porch swing as he sucked on a lollipop, watching taehyung, who was sitting on the wood plank floor in front of him, have a mental breakdown as he stared at his phone.
jungkook moved the lollipop to his cheek. "just open it."
taehyung's hand shot up to block jungkook's face and shushed him violently. "this is an important moment. this may be the end of my first online friendship."
jungkook sighed, slouching further into his seat, staring blankly at taehyung. taehyung took a deep breath and opened the notification.
taehyung's eyes scanned the screen, he squealed, and collapsed on the floor, rolling about hugging himself. jungkook picked up the phone and read the message.
blanktaeboard asked:
i'll have to try that then... i think my mom keeps some epsom salt hidden so we don't touch it but maybe if i beg her she'll let me use it *-* -dance anon
jimblinjammin answered:
oh... i don't think you meant to send this off-anon but it's okay! i'm excited to know who u r ^^ i just followed you back btw, and ur selfies r rlly cute >.<
i hope ur mom lets u use it, epsom salt baths quite literally save my life every time im rlly sore, they're the bestttt
"see? i told you there was nothing to worry about." jungkook said, tossing the phone back at taehyung.
"my friendship isn't over!" taehyung cheered, just barely catching the phone.
"you might even get a boyfriend out of this." jungkook winked, laughing when taehyung's face scrunched up.
"ew." was taehyung's only reply, and the facial expression made jungkook curl in on himself, unable to stop laughing.
taehyung and jimin messaged back and forth constantly, to the point where jungkook once jokingly asked which one was taehyung's best friend anymore. taehyung replied by tackling jungkook to the ground and refusing to stop cuddling him until seokjin literally dragged them apart for dinner.
it was mostly everyday stuff, like taehyung's commentary on the fluffiest dog he saw while walking to school and jimin's excited remarks about learning how to do flips in his dance class. they eventually switched to texting, as taehyung's mom began complaining about the data charges of their account being dragged up to ungodly prices every month.
the two grew closer and taehyung's account received a bunch of followers of people who only knew him because he and jimin were friends. they moved from texts to calls to video chats, where jimin would make fun of taehyung's cracking voice and taehyung would shoot back on how jimin's hadn't begun to crack yet.
it was comfortable, and easy, and although jungkook had never seen jimin, the two basically knew each other because of all the stories taehyung would tell each one about the other. jungkook began to periodically steal taehyung's phone to send jimin something, inside jokes about busan and ahjusshis that taehyung couldn't even begin to understand.
taehyung's phone clicked when jimin picked up.
"hey." taehyung whispered, grinning.
"hey!" jimin replied too loudly and taehyung was quick to hush him. "what time is it there?"
taehyung glanced at the clock on his nightstand. "it's a little past two am."
"tae! why are you awake?" jimin whisper-shouted. "your mom is going to kill you."
"only if she hears me," taehyung grinned, "and you didn't call earlier so..."
"sorry." taehyung could hear the regret thick in jimin's voice. "my show is next week so rehearsals have been insane."
the two talked for a while more. they were laughing about a toddler jimin had met in a convenience store when the door to taehyung's room opened with a creak. taehyung slammed his phone under his pillow, face mushed into the softness.
"i know you're awake," taehyung's umma said, "and i know you're on the phone with jimin-ah. tell him i say hello and go to sleep. you have school tomorrow."
the door clicked shut.
taehyung slowly pulled his phone out from under the pillow and held it back up to his face.
"your mom caught you?" jimin guessed.
"my umma." taehyung corrected. "and she says hello."
"oh, tell her i say hello too then." jimin giggled.
"she also says that i have to go to bed."
"well, it has been-" jimin paused, "-more than an hour which means it's probably close to four am there and oh my god, don't you have school tomorrow? or today?"
"uh, yeah." taehyung chuckled.
"go to bed!"
"alright, alright. goodnight, jimin-ah."
"goodnight." jimin chirped before hanging up.
taehyung plugged in his phone and allowed his heavy eyelids to slip closed.
online friendships were pretty great.
