my tadc hot take is that if ep 9 didn’t exist and it ended with ep 8, exactly the same with the cliffhanger, that would have been a better, more poignant ending for the series than all of ep 9

rapid fire tadc thoughts to spew into the void:

-def was not a completely “unexpected” ending, I’ve been hearing the brain scan theory since BEFORE I watched the show

-I didn’t like the way this information was given to the audience (a lot of stuff happened like this); very tell don’t show from kinger but eh

-POMNI RAGATHA DRAMATIC HUG

-wished there was more focus on the characters other than pomni + Jax but I understand why their arcs happened the way they did

-maid scene is weird

-weird how long the focus was on Jax’s whole…thing, but no focus on him ACTUALLY abstracting

-I think the Jax backstory and pomni scenes were gorgeous btw

-weird edit thing in the middle of MY indie animated finale??

-the Caine redemption was so cool, but why did that development come out of no where?? felt so rushed tbh

-I truly think that was the perfect ending, but getting there was some weird mix of horribly paced/weirdly written dialogue/everyone but Jax feeling static/no major lore reveals/net zero action that I didn’t find myself enjoying it as much as I have before

-I understand the allegories(yay trans rep!) and I understand stuff had to wrap up neatly (yeah yeah indie budget I get it) but I guess I didn’t GET it? like if the series ended after eight, I would have been satisfied because this episode felt so pointless

-ABSTRAGEDY CRACKING AND CAINE FOUND FAMILY aka why was the credits the best part

-I’m at this weird point with a lot of media where the endings they’re building up seem so much deep and juicier and cool and then the finale is just. meh? is it just me? am I hyping things up too much or are things losing steam right as they get to the finish line? Someone pls tell me if I’m crazy 🙏

overall: 3/10 for the ep, 5.5/10 for the show(that middle episode doing a lot of heavy lifting in that)

Don't think about the crooked eyebrows and flailing limbs. The sailor always had a knack for storytelling, so ignore the way wind twirls around his locks. Don't think about the sea.

Don't think about the wooden bowl filled with warm soup after a day of trudging through the rain. Don't think about scars that stretch the body or vacant houses now touched with life anew.

I unfortunately got afflicted with this horrible sickness called The FeelsTM and spend the last week working on this piece. Whenever I scroll through ao3 for fanfics and I bump into those post-lu fics I get so so so sad (actually I don't even need to scroll through ao3 for that to happen it just randomly ambushes me).
